Getting stuff signed,How important is this to you?

Obviously,i'm referring to the official people signing the TF merchandise like voice actors,artist,actors,writers,designers,etc...

personally,It's not important to me. I can do without this.

I notice for the TF market, their isn't a huge money/profit demand on the secondary market for signed TF merchandise. sure some might buy this stuff,But the majority just doesn't care to buy this sort of stuff.

I don't collect TF toys/Comics for future profits/re-sell values.

Back when I was heavy into Star Trek and going to conventions frequently I was a relentless autograph hound. Now, I just don't care. My only motivation for getting an autograph is mostly to be able to personally meet whoever is signing (Weird Al at Botcon 09 for example). The experience of actually meeting him means more to me than the actual autograph. As for resale value I don't really think there is any for most celebrities anymore. I know that when it comes to Star Trek, resale value is like a car, as soon as you buy it, it instantly loses half it's value and then if you have it signed it's monetarily worthless.

I've never seen getting autographs as important, but it is cool to get something signed. Even though I've never gone out of my way to get autographs, I've gotten three by pure luck. Tim Russ and Ethan Phillips just happened to stop by the Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas while I was there for my birthday in 1998. And Geoff Johns was in town for Free Comic Book Day to sign Blackest Night #0 a few years ago. He signed a bunch of extras for my comic book store and I was able to get one.

I don't really care much for it. Just like I open my toys and play with them, I read my comics and books. Having the writer's or artist's name scribbled all over 'm just makes it harder to do that.

I like to get albums signed by bands, particularly on the smaller scene--as a musician myself, I have actually had a handful of people ask me to sign my own CDs for them, and it's a pretty cool feeling, so I like to fuck with smaller bands and make them do that. I have Protomen merch signed by every member of the band (and even some who are no longer in it) which is pretty neat.

Oh, and my Trigun DVD is signed by Johnny Yong Bosch, who voiced the main character. I knew he'd be at the convention so I brought my DVD, and then I happened to find a lesser-publicized line in the dealer room for him to sign stuff, and got in early, so that was cool.

But as far as TF? Pretty much the only guys who've made anything that I would want to get signed are McCarthy and AHM, and James Roberts and Nick Roche on everything they've ever done. But I'd only do it if they were going to be at a convention I was already planning to go to; I wouldn't go out of my way just for that one experience.

Part of what disgust me about signed stuff. Is when the majority of those who sign sci-fi stuff use those thick or medium huge sized black markers to sign stuff in a sloppy large manner. SORRY I DON'T NEED MY FAVORITE TF MERCHANDISE RUINED BY HUGE SLOPPY UGLY AUTOGRAPHS.

Granted I could accept if these guys were signing stuff with a tiny/regular sized pen in a neat fashion--->Sadly 95%+ of the time this is not the case.

Having my favorite TF stuff signed in a sloppy quickie over sized manner is the equivelant of of someone throwing a can of opened paint all over my favorite TF merchandise.

The thing with TF toy boxes & comics, they are a work of art in the literal sense,as they feature are drawings/pics on them. to have someone sign a huge sloppy autograpgh with a black marker DEFACES THAT ART ON THE TF MERCHANDISE.

If I wanted a autograpgh by a official TF actors, writers, artist, designers. I think the proper venue is to buy/take a picture of the guy, then have him autograpgh the picture of himself.

These guys typically sign over a thousand things a day when they do appearances, or something nuts like that. A Sharpie is pretty necessary for that; if they were sitting there spending 30+ seconds doing their name, it'd be a pain in the ass.
