Botcon 2010 is Generation 2

The originals... ok, not exactly, but the original named "The TransFormers" anyway. Take THAT, Diaclone!

Botcon 2010 is Generation 2

As seen on Botcon.com.

Autobot Spark? Looks like Pyro to me. I just hope we're getting a G2 Sideswipe out of this!

Spark was Pyro's alternate name, just as Clench's alternate name was Colossus. There was a lot of that going on in late G1/early G2 with the Euro guys. Skyquake was also known as Crash and, depending on how much you want to believe, Scrash.

Anyway. This is pretty much the single gaudiest, awful-looking bright-coloured neon clashing figure I have ever seen in my life.

I want three.

I am rather torn on that.

I would pretty much have to get one, as that is my favorite mold. But, I already sort of have one.

That Pyro is friggin' hideous....which makes it authentic to G2.

I do recall hearing that Master Collector was not supposed to be making any more iconic characters after Thundergate in '07. Of course, G2 colors might get a pass, ala "Shattered Glass".

The difference between Thundergate and a G2 Sideswipe toy would be that Sideswipe already had a US retail release, and this is in colours that aren't as immediately desirable. After all, last year's set had Kup, who is arguably a major character in his own right. (He was featured in all of S3 and the original movie, plus he's a major player in IDW's current comics.)

True. But, Sideswipe and Starscream being in the movie makes me wonder what Hasbro would say.

Personally, I would be tickled silly if something I made a custom of ended up having an official counterpart. On the other hand, I would feel almost obligated to get the friggin' things. (Still, barring a headswap, I will favor "package-art" Ramjet over anything MC makes.)

So....lessee

Prime in slightly darker colors? Sideswipe? Prowl recolored several times as Rapido and Skram? Maybe Prowl with a head-swap as Jazz? (Arg!) Grimlock? (That mold looks awesome in blue.) Silverbolt and Onslaught in their G2 colors and/or as some obscure UK guys?

If Geoff Senior winds up doing the art, I might have to buy this set.

Calling it now: Cybertron Defense Red Alert as Stalker. And even though they've repeatedly used the mould for sets before, I could see them doing Hot Rod in authentic G2 comic purple, with the G2 logo and all. G2swipe and Ramjet are also pretty likely choices. Same with Blue Grimlock. A shiny red Bumblebee repainted as Hubcap, perhaps? They could also do up Cybertron Thundercracker as Hooligan or one of the other Cyberjets, as much as I dislike the Thundy mould.

Senior? Screw that, I want Yaniger.

I would love to see Derek Yaniger draw a G2 story again.

How much are these Botcon sets normally? Am I looking at $250 bucks for the figures or something? I don't have a clue how I'm going to put that much away in the next few months, but I think I'm even more interested in this set than in the classics set from a few years ago.

Can we pleae not talk about 2007 Please!?!?!?!? Does anybody really want me to get started on that again?

Plan on ~$300 for a set of these. The real trick is going to be getting the "in-show" exclusives, which tend to be quite nice as well. Unless you go to the show, plan on spending time on E*Bay...which can get expensive.

Dom

Yeah, there's no way I'm going to be able to afford the majority of these figures. I guess I'll have to wait until they're all revealed and try to pick and choose my favorites and plan accordingly.
