I wish for the new Stephen King book "Under the Dome". I have every intention of purchasing it this week.

For that matter, there's a Chuck Palinhuik book out there I haven't read yet, I should look into fixing that.

I've never actually read a Stephen King novel, but I've seen just about all of the movies. 'cept The Stand. I like the Narnia and Harry Potter books. Kama Sutra, the Art of War, were both interesting. Been working on War and Peace (yes, THAT War and Peace) for a few years now. Mags, I get the TF Collector's Club mag, Toyfare and Lee's Toy Review and that's about it. Toyfare has been an inspiration for me. See the link in my sig for more info.

I'm a long time reader, though I've slowed down in recent years. I spend too much time browsing and reading on the internet to read books the way I should. I did recently read "Liberty and Tyranny" by Mark Levin, an excellent and concise explanation of conservatism. I also recently enjoyed two Star Trek Voyager novels, "Full Circle" and "Unworthy". I haven't read any Trek fiction in years, but these two were well worth my time.

I'm a big fan of Tolkien's books, especially "The Silmarillion". I frenquently gripe while watching the movie version of the various "Lord of the Rings" books because of all the deviations from the storyline from the books and the needless butchering of characters.

Magazines: I used to subscribe to Runner's World magazine. I've been a recreational long-distance runner since high school, and the magazine was often motivational. But the editorial slant got on my nerves once too often and I dropped it. When I read editorials encouraging women to break into all-male road races, but mocking men who try and break into all-women road races, for example, there's a certain lack of consistency that irks me. So they don't get my money any more. I do get the TF Collector's club magazine as well.

I've read a lot of Trek books, but no new ones in recent years. Never read the Tolkein books. Well, scratch that, I read the Hobbit in high school.

So if you enjoy racing does that make you a race-ist? Sorry, couldn't resist

Hey, at least you can finish the race. Given how outta shape I am, I probably wouldn't last more than five feet. Wait, scratch that, I'd make at least 6' since that's how tall I am so I'd at least make it that far when I pass out.

Most of the movie adaptations don't work terribly well, I don't think. Somehow, what works so well on the page totally fails on-screen. Though, there's exceptions...Shawshank Redemption, The Mist, Pet Sematary, Stand By Me, and Creepshow were all pretty decent movies, to say the least. And Maximum Overdrive, King's one and only directorial effort, is a really good bad movie.

Hey, Shockers, read "The Dark Tower" series. I have a feeling you'd dig those pretty well.

I seem to recall reading the description on the back of those and thinking they'd be good. Oh, I did read the Eyes of the Dragon. That's been one of my favorites since I was a kid.

I think "The Lord of the Rings" books are so much better than the movie that it's not even funny. The movies are pretty decent, but they succumb to Hollywood cliches when it comes to character arcs and action scenes. And it's a pity, because they get so much of the visual part of the story right, along with great music and casting. But things like making Gimli the comic relief character, or having Aragorn running from being king when in the book he's been working towards it all his adult life, or having Faramir initially take the ring to Gondor when in the book he rejects it completely once he learns about it... all of these and more just gall me.

It's just odd. The filmmakers apparently loved Tolkien's books so much that they wanted to make a movie of them... but then they think they can do it better.

You should read the books one day. They're well worth it, and very different in tone from the Hobbit.
