the end of Shockphone

Post by Dominic »

I lost my hooligan phone today. Shockphone, (the phone I customized a while back), was taken from me by the spirits of sea and surf.

Read about it here:

For the autopsy, should I do a straight forward dissection, or a "Toy Fare" style photo-shoot, using other action figures?

You say that like it's not a blatantly obvious answer. The latter, man, the latter!

One of the tech support guys at work suggested waiting a few more days. He has seen phones recover from similar events after being given a few days to dry out.

I am really mourning the loss of all those potty-shots.

I had no idea there was a Minicon named Pliers. Oh, those crazy Minicons. Seriously, the nutsy names that Japan gave a lot of them was a lot cooler than most of the generic stuff we got--it gave me an impression that the Minicons truly were coming to life on Earth, on their own, as opposed to being old robots from Cybertron, and they were choosing their own names and identities.

Come to think, it would be interesting to see a new take on Minicons using the AllSpark energy principle from the Movie continuities.

I always assumed the names like "Pliers" were along the lines of the reasoning in "Man of Iron". Transformers actual names do not translate into human languages, so they take names (in context for dealing with people) that make idiomatically sense. Pliers would be an engineer of some kind.

In cases where their are no humans present, we read transliterated names, as they would be if people were present.

The only reason I think it'd be my reasoning is probably because Pliers is such a...non-Transformery name, y'know? Like, a regular TF who had been around the society for ages would probably choose a Transformery-sounding name like Kickstart or Shockthread or Steelwind. But a newly-minted TF mind, like a Minicon or a sentient AllSpark-energy TF, might choose something entirely random from human language.

"Pliers? That sounds like a good name!"
"Uh...yeah, sure. Now put your underside on this peg on my ass."
"What?"
"I'll explain later."

On the other hand, not all, (or even most), Minicons are "young" by TF standards.

The Japanese tend to go for themed Minicon names. Pliers, (Drill) Bit, and Socket (wrench) are recolors of the Recon team. I assume they are supposed to be engineers or techs of some kind.
