Live-Action Mega Man movie coming out in July.
In case you couldn't tell, this is a fan project that will be available online this July. I kinda don't like how they redesigned the Robot Masters played by actual humans (especially Ice Man; where's the parka?), and the acting is a bit stiff, but so far, it looks really well done.

Haa. I love these ridiculous fan movies that take such liberties with the source material. It's like a knowing parody of 90s video game adaptations like Double Dragon, Super Mario Bros. and Street Fighter.

Actually, it's staying as true to the original series as the directer can, given the budget. I think he said the only real major liberties he's taking with the movie are Mega Man's age (he's played by a guy in his 20's instead of a kid, since a kid as Mega Man wouldn't work in the movie) and the lack of "stages" in the movie (the original script had Mega Man fighting his way through the stages before fighting the Robot Masters, but it would've been too long; instead, he fights them directly in various parts of the city, with the landscape digitally changed to reflect the Robot Master inhabiting it). He's got Proto Man, all of the major bosses (which means Yellow Devil will be in it), remixed music from the series...hell, the guy was contacted directly by Capcom, and they gave him their approval, so obviously it has some merit behind it. It's not a parody, it's an honest-to-god attempt at a serious movie, and so far, it looks like it's on the right track.Onslaught Six wrote:Haa. Except for the part where it looks and feels entirely and inexplicably ridiculous.
Mega Man is not DARK SRS FICTION. It's a fun little series that's crazy and wonky and cheesy. Every bad guy is Something Man. There's no way you can't go through this and not laugh.
If you want to do a serious Mega Man movie, you do Mega Man X. That's serious.

Not even that one's too serious. Were they to make an MMX Movie, I would want Zero to die and come back to life EVERY TWENTY MINUTES.Onslaught Six wrote:If you want to do a serious Mega Man movie, you do Mega Man X. That's serious.

Seriously, this is exactly how Hollywood would make a live-action Mega Man movie; darker, edgier, grittier. Besides, how is Mega Man X any more serious, what with you fighting robotic furries and a cybernetic Mr. Clean wannabe whose recent exploits include him shuffling towards the player screaming "ZELLOJUZDIE!!!" at the top of his lungs? Besides, I thought the initial 3 games were a bit darker than the later games (at least the initial 3 games had plots that were semi-realistic and able to be pulled off in a more serious tone; the whole "Let's frame someone for Wily's misdeeds" thing for 4-6 was just stupid, and a sign that the games were becoming parodies of themselves).
And besides, the director has already voiced a desire to do a movie based on Mega Man X, in the future, if he can get the funding for it.
You really need to cut this guy some slack; CAPCOM of all people have voiced their approval of this movie, so if THE OWNERS OF THE FRANCHISE THEMSELVES are interested in it, then you can't really say it's a wasted effort, especially not when it hasn't been released, yet. Maybe you've been playing Mega Man Powered Up! too often (I admit, I hate the game; stupid chibi redesign and Offensive Racial Stereotype Man), but the original series CAN work as a serious work (just check out Mega Man 7, if you don't believe me; that thing was darker than all of the other original games combined), and I think the director is doing a good job keeping to the spirit of the series as close as possible regardless of how dark he's making it.

I never implied that being hilariously bad was a bad thing. I'm actually interested in seeing this.
But to try and place it as high art is ludicrous.

I never implied that I thought this was high art, either. I only said that it looks promising, promising enough that, if Capcom themselves are approving of it, there's a good chance it'll be good. I already voiced what I disliked about the movie in my previous posts (the costumes of the human-played Robot Masters and the somewhat-wooden acting), but overall it looks great for a no-budget indie film.Onslaught Six wrote:I never implied that being hilariously bad was a bad thing.
