February Hauls!!

Post by andersonh1 »

I'll start. My local comic shop had the big blowout sale today that they do once a year, so I picked up the Golden Age Flash archives vol. 1. I could easily have bought a ton more if I'd had some more cash. They had tables full of $5 trade paperbacks and 75% off hardbacks, but in the end I had to pick something and the Flash won out.

I haven't gotten much since xmas, so I'll just list the stuff I remember from the last month:

Marvel Legends WW2 Captain America - not bad, recognizable and decent sculpting, I got it before the price increase so even better. No BAF part with this figure though.
IDW X-Files Conspiracy 1 - not good.
IDW X-Files Conspiracy Ghostbusters (aka issue 2 in Conspiracy) - very bad.
Dark Cybertron 6 - not as awful as previous issues, but the art has fully failed.
Dark Cybertron 7 - actually compelling, but feels out of sorts to the rest of the series, and art is in the toilet.
Afterlife with Archie 3 (not read yet)
Batman '66 7 (not read yet)
TFG Legends Optimus Prime with Roller - kinda fun, kinda mediocre.
TFP Legion Jet Vehicon - not too bad, but the lack of a retractable head is a bummer.
TFG Armada Starscream - a little underwhelming compared to previous sculpt and deco work in this line, but overall decent.
TFG Minicons - kinda supbar but with charm and fun.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

When I was wandering through Target's toy section yesterday, I ran across something kind of odd. They had the Construct-Bots Optimus Prime vs. Megatron set clearanced way the hell down to $6.24. Which, from twenty-five bucks? Okay, I almost have to try that out. What the hell, I've always been fond of the kind of toys that have a lot of customization options, and I've been kind of curious. So far I've just put the Megatron together in robot mode, and my first thoughts are that it's not perfect, but it seems like a fun toy. I'll have to check out Megatron's tank mode and screw around with mixing up the two sets before I make up my mind for sure, but I could get behind these things.

Bought Doctor Who The Moonbase on DVD. The two missing episodes have been animated, so I'm looking forward to that. Now watch the omnirumor turn out to be true, and episodes 1 and 3 show up a few months down the road. Not that I'd be complaining if that happened!

I've seen some sightings online of Generations Rhinox at K-Mart. Well there aren't really any K-Marts near me anymore, but I was at a booksale (which didn't have anything I wanted) that wasn't far from one today so I decided to check it out. And indeed, they had one Rhinox!

Hell yeah. Never actually seen that one, I don't think, but a friend loaned me the Target novelization the one time. I spent a study hall time productively learning how to draw the Cybermen from the cover. I loved that version of those dudes.

Picked up Generations Rhinox - good, a little fiddly, can't move in beast mode except the mouth and upper jaw one click, instructions have some goofs, good overall though.

My copy of The Golden Age Superman Omnibus arrived today from Amazon. It's the first two and a half years, give or take, of Superman comics in chronological order. This is before Superman settles down and becomes the boy scout, so should be very entertaining reading. :D

Is that starting from Action Comics #1 or from Superman #1? Either way, that does sound like it would be interesting reading. I look forward to reading your review of it.
