Combiners, triple changers & animals were my Favorite G1 toys
Combiners,Tripple/Six changers & animals were my Favorite G-1 toys. To me this was the most popular essence of the brand, everything else was bland.

Re: Combiners, triple changers & animals were my Favorite G1
Honestly, this first thing this thread did was make me try to imagine what a young TigerMegatron, back in the 80's, might have been like.
(Actually, now I'm imagining a whole 'spinoff babies' version of the board, 'TFV Kidz' or something. Which is interesting since several of us were barely like 12 or 13 when we first started posting on the BWTF boards anyway.)
ANYWAY, I actually agree that I've always preferred to see TF take the core concept of 'robots turning into stuff' and expand into new spins on the concept. It's a pity we don't really get whole sub-headers dedicated to that sort of thing these days the way G1 rolled out Headmasters, Pretenders, Micromasters, and the like. I think PCC was the last time TF really got remotely daring with experimentation, though those Construct-a-Bots things might have something going (even if it looks like they'll have to partsform Kre-O style, which is stupid since I thought the WHOLE POINT was that they would eschew that). I guess Bot Shots is a thing too, and the newest refresh of that has even introduced more unique gimmickry, but the line personally just isn't my cup of tea, though lots of other people, particularly DvD, seem pretty taken with them, so what do I know. I still feel like I should get at least one, if only Sunstorm hadn't been one of those shitty clear ones.
At least Beast Hunters is here, shakin' up that altmode selection. I hope it goes on for a minute, I'll even buy repaints (I want Vertibreak just for his name, and I might even import that Japanese version of Ripclaw).

Well TFW does have the "show yourself" thread, maybe we could do a version of that where we submit child pics of ourselves. Bonus points if the pic actually has a Transformer in it.BWprowl wrote:Honestly, this first thing this thread did was make me try to imagine what a young TigerMegatron, back in the 80's, might have been like.

I personally think there's a largely untapped realm of alt modes out there, both organic and inorganic. Computer and cell phone tech has only very slightly been touched on and quickly abandoned. Same with video game tech.

So down for this, unfortunately I'll have no access to family photos for the next month or so, bah! Fun idea though.Shockwave wrote:maybe we could do a version of that where we submit child pics of ourselves. Bonus points if the pic actually has a Transformer in it.

I'd like to see all the Beast Hunters Predacons dragon-bots recolored into G-1 character toys & also from other TF toy lines. Examples:BWprowl wrote:Honestly, this first thing this thread did was make me try to imagine what a young TigerMegatron, back in the 80's, might have been like.

1- BH Voyager Predaking would make a decent recolored toy for BW TM2 Megatron, with a retooled BW Megatron robot head.
2- BH Ultimate Predaking would make a decent G-1 1986 Skylynx recolor.
3-BH Voyager Grimwing would make a decent BW Polarclaw recolor with a new head sculpt.
4- 1987 Snapdragon could use one of the BH deluxe dragon toys as his new recolored+retooled head toy.
I'd love to see more & better bigger KREO TF build it sets made for the following G-1 toys.
1- Sixshot,changes into six modes,leader sized.
2- Omega supreme, leader or supreme sized, since his 1985 toy was a parts former that kids had to build.
3- 1986 Galvatron, leader sized changes from a robot into his futeristic laser canon alt mode.

Re: Combiners, triple changers & animals were my Favorite G1
Favorite G1 toys? I think with me it often had to do with characters as much as the toys. I loved the original Optimus Prime, and Omega Supreme, and all the Constructicons and Stunticons. I loved the Jumpstarters, though I was probably one of the few who did! I really liked Blitzwing, who was the only triple changer I had. Beachcomber was my favorite mini-bot, along with Brawn. And though Ironhide looked nothing like the tv version, I loved his little battle trailer.
