I don't get it whats so special about the Onslaught persona.

For those who like the 1980's Onslaught persona/toy,why do you like it,so much. that's my burning question i'm curious to get answered.

I'm curious to know why there is such a huge cult/following of Onslaught being selected as a TF Message forum user name. Did a bunch of fans get together & decide to add 86,06,09,200,EXT.. After the onslaught name on their TF message forum user names. was this all started by a elite onslaught fan/cult club or something?

I've visited about 12 TF sites that have message forums. I notice theirs some kind of Club/cult surronding the Onslaught name. Hundreds Message forums members have chosen the "Onslaught" user name with numbers after the name,examples: OInslaught86,Onslaught06,Onslaught01,Onslaught99.

The thing that puzzles me is that Generation 1985 Onslaught received next to none persona in the 1980's TF cartoons/comics.
For the last 2 weeks ago,I saw the last 20 episodes of TF G-1 Season 2 on the Hub network. Onslaught in the season 2 cartoon gets almost no persona. in fact there appears to be no real team member leader of the combaticons inn the season 2 cartoon. I found it strange/odd/wrong for various combaticons team members to yell the "lets combine in bruticus phrase" Swindle ordfers the combaticons to combine into bruticus in a few episodes. Vortex orders the combaticons to combine into bruticus in another episode. Swindle apparently gets the most screen time & fleshed out persona of all the combaticons. In the last 1985 season 2 episode called "B.O.T" Swinsdle acts like the leader & brains of the combaticons. In the Comics the Combaticons are not in that many issues & they all get treated like army builders/drones/muscle bots.

In the 1985 TF G-1 cartoon series,other combiners core/team leaders took more prominent roles & established themselves as the combiner team leader rank,like silverbolt,Motormaster & Hotspot.

As far as the 1980's TF toys goes,I can't rate any of them as being decent,awful,excellent or whatever. Because I'm not a fan of any of the brick-formers 1980's TF toys.

I'll admit that the Classics 2.0 Ultra sized Onslaught toy was a decent toy. but at that size it was easier for the designers to create a awesome toy. due to more pieces being involved,thicker plastic,bigger height/bulk,etc... Even though the Energon 5-in-1 combiners for the combaticons didn't have the Onslaught name attached to the core deluxe bot. I'd rate the energon deluxe combaticon combiner as a better homage toy for 1985 Onslaught,as it has more 1980' toy/media onslaught homages in it,like the alt mode,combiner mode,robot mode,etc.... I think the ROTF Combaticons might have called the deluxe core leader by the namev onslaught but i'm not sure. I also think the PCC Onslaught toy is a better toy compared to Classics 2.0 onslaught. Because the PCC onslaught has a more closer homage 1986 vechicle mode,robot & combiner mode.

Technically the Car robots/Rid recolors/re-names that use the 1985 combaticons toys don't count as 1985 combaticons persona name homages. because both CR/Rid used different persona names. so any detailed persona or ranks these CR/RID guys got don't count towards the 1980's Combaticons persona names.

I haven't played any of the WFC/FOC TF Video games. So,i'm clueless about the combaticons persona's in the video games. judging by how video games go,I'm strongly guessing the Combaticons have no detailed persona's & ARE TREATED LIKE ARMY BUILDERS/MUSCLE BOTS in the video games. there just there for epic battles & that's it.

The IDW TF comics had Swindle act as the leaders/brains of the combaticons/bruticus. So onslaught was clearly not giving his fellow combaticons members orders nor leading them. Swindle got the most persona out of all the combaticons in the IDW TF Comics. while Onslaught barely got any persona or dialogue words in the IDW TF comics.

LASTLY IN CLOSING: I'll admit the FOC Combaticons toys are awesome, BUT I NEED THESE FOC COMBATICONS TOYS IN 1985 COLORS. WITH VORTEX BEING 70% DARK GREY,BLASTOFF BEING DARK BROWN+BLACK+PURPLE,ONSLAUGHT BEING DARK BLUE-GREEN WITH GOLD/BRONZE PAINTED ON DECO STICKERS. Oddly enough FOC SWINDLE & BRAWL ARE IN 1985 COMBATICONS COLORS.

IT'S REALLY FRUSTRATING TO SEE THE FOC COMBATICONS MOLDS RECOLORED ALMOST 5 TIMES ALEADY & YET HASBRO/TAKARA HASN'T DONE THE 1985 COMBATICONS TOY COLORS ON THE FOC COMBATICONS TOY MOLDS YET.

HAVING THE SDCC FOC SWINDLE,BLASTOFF & VORTEX ALL USING THE SAME GOLD/BRONZE COLOR JUST SEEMS WRONG,BECAUSE THERE NOT TECHNOBOTS NOR CONSTRUCTICONS THAT HAVE THE SAME UNIFIED TEAM COLORS.

People like the name.

Also, there probably are some fans like me out there who preferred the tech specs over the cartoon back in the day, and Onslaught's paints him with some relative depth.

Using the G1 cartoon as an indicator of any character's personality is a risky bet at best.

EDIT: Lol @ Hot Spot having a "more prominent role" than Onslaught in the cartoon. I think I remember him having all of two lines. Heck, for all the lines Motormaster got he still had no more personality than Onslaught.

In Fall of Cybertron and they definitely functioned more as a military unit with Onslaught being the leader of that team.

But, with this is ultimately a question that applies to anyone's username. Why is yours "TigerMegatron"? Did you wanna see Megatron as a tiger at some point? I mean, we see a lot of Shockwaves as usernames too and I don't have to wonder why that is (hint: It sure as hell isn't the G1 cartoon, nor DotM).

I once conceived of a Prime with a canine alternate mode named 'Sirius Prime'. He had a 'trailer' too, a big weapons rack he towed around in beast mode. There was a very convoluted cache of characters he was part of, all taking place on a far-future Cybertron where the Decepticon values had resurfaced as some misguided psuedo-religious-fanatic cult, and OG TFs were so few and far between that someone like *Broadside* was considered a 'Legend'.

I'd like to revisit that story at some point.

The comics (especially the UK ones) gave me a lot of love for the guys who rotated in as Decepticon leaders, especially Shockwave, Soundwave, and Scourge and Cyclonus (loved the fact that they apparently ruled as a duumvirate).

I took my screen name waaaaay back in the day due simply to a love of the TMII Prowl toy, which at the time had even less context than Tigger is alleging for Onslaught here; I just thought it was a cool toy. Interestingly now, I also have a lot of love for the G1 Prowl (thank you very much IDW), whom I was fairly neutral towards before, but I still like having the BW in the name, to denote what originally got me into the franchise, and as a signal to my role back on the old BWTF boards when I'd usually be the first guy to jump in to defend it from detractors.

I did a kitbash using a over sized 7 inch KO of SCF G-1 Megatron with Zoids liger-Zero armor attached al over the robot mode. That's basically where the TigerMegatron name came from.

The TFU figure from '08 was a good update. Onslaught became a SWAT truck, which implies all sorts of stuff about where and who he is really fighting. (And, it made him a nice compliment to Prowl.)

Onslaught was shown as a tactician of sorts in the old cartoon, albeit through his (rare) spoken lines rather than his actions.

IDW's Onslaught is a good tactical planner. But, as shown in Costa's run, he is not much of a long term planner.

I made that TigerMegatron toy kitbash over 10 years ago. about 7 years ago,I got tired of it & threw it out. I never posted pics of my Tigermegatron toy kitbash on my youtube channel.

This is a lot of what ended up attracting me to the character in the long run.

However, the answer might surprise you. The reality of the situation behind my name is that it was a legacy. Onslaught Six was an individual character, the way Mega-Octane/Dolrailer and Great Cannon are distinct from G1 Onslaught. Of course, at the time, I didn't realize that G2 Onslaught was the same guy, and that Mega-Octane and Dolrailer were the same guy. (I was 12.) "Onslaught" was a character who had very many brothers and had a legacy to continue, the same way a name like Starscream could be applied to lots of different dudes over time. (BWII Starscream! Armada Starscream! Movie Starscream! All distinct guys who share some traits but also are distinct from each other!)

onslaught86 chose the name because Onslaught had a cool toy, and 86 was the year he was released.

Over time, though, I grew to enjoy elements of Onslaught as both a character and his toy's original design. His colour scheme is awesome. (I love dark blue, and he's a very distinct shade of it, compared against guys like Soundwave and Thundercracker.) His rivet details are unique and stand out among dudes. His gun has a silencer on it, which is interesting and cool for a G1 toy. He's a commander of a unit and a gestalt centerpiece, and he's actually one of the better individual gestalt leader toys. (Compare him to Motormaster, who looks ridiculous in robot mode.) Also, the way his hands fold in to become his truck grille has always both impressed and amused me. (It has no right to work as well as it does.) He's got those really cool back cannons, which both give him an extra piece of firepower most TFs don't have (lots of them have shoulder cannons; not many have back cannons) and gives him a unique silouette. The Car Robots remoulding also gave his altmode ramp a peg so that it can be used as a shield, and my G1 Onslaught has been holding it ever since, which gives Onslaught a very warrior-like appearance and gives him a tactical advantage most TFs don't have. (Very few TFs have shields for some reason.) The way his arms and legs are two-toned, with blue on the front and back but olive green on the sides, is also really different among TFs and gives him a different look than most. And his transformation is basic without being often-repeated--very few TFs fold their arms above their head to become the front of the vehicle that way, especially in the modern era.

I guess what it comes down to is that his toy is really cool and it has a lot of things about him that you don't really see in TFs a lot now. (It's these same reasons I think FOC Onslaught is a major failing as an individual Onslaught toy--Universe 2.0 Onslaught is a much better toy of Onslaught individually. And I know what you're gonna say, Deathy--that you don't like it when combiner members get individual, non-combining toys. And on some level, I understand and agree with it--to an extent. I can also come at it from the perspective that combiner members are individuals, and sometimes could use a different toy.

Because I don't necessarily believe in a slavish devotion for the sake of Geewun accuracy, see. For example, I didn't care that in Armada, Skywarp looked different from Starscream, because they were both cool designs. And I didn't mind that Universe Onslaught couldn't combine with anybody, because he was a cool toy of Onslaught, and if I wanted a Bruticus, I could just wait, or get the Energon one, or something.

I was kinda building off of that with my Shockwave description but maybe I shoulda quoted to make that clear.

Also, the thing I realized in recent years was that Shockwave's original character was drawn up as an evil space robot Spock and Spock has always been my favorite Star Trek character which is why I think I like Shockwave so much. Well that and the initial Marvel Comics. Where he kicked literally everyone's ass.
