No Blurr, who else was left out of Alternators?

The originals... ok, not exactly, but the original named "The TransFormers" anyway. Take THAT, Diaclone!
Generation 1, Generation 2 - Removable fists? Check. Unlicensed vehicle modes? Check. Kickass tape deck robot with transforming cassette minions? DOUBLE CHECK!!!

No Blurr, who else was left out of Alternators?

Post by Doctor Who »

Looking over the list of who was made into an Alternator Blurr does not appear.

There are two colors of Tracks, and Meister.

Ravage had two separate molds.

Grimlock even had one made of him, he is as dinobot.

nearly everyone had two versions made in other colors with new names.

For some reason the one with a name that should have been made is no where to be found.

looking back on the names, who else was left out that should have been made?

Blaster and Perceptor. ;) Bumblebee was never done as an alt, I know this because one of my buddies always mentions this every time we talk how great it'd be to have that done, and especially if they had done movie BB as an alt. I roll my eyes.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

I do agree that we needed larger scale movie cars done along the lines of Alts to truly make the most of the designs and license, but that's another tangent..

The Battlechargers. They would've been absolutely perfect, would've given us quite the different transformation, and would've been logical retools of each other. They even got coverage via IDW, such a missed opportunity.

Considering that G1 had over 350 characters, and we only got 27 Alternators, a lot of characters were left out. :D

Out of the molds we got, I can think of some character swaps I'd like to have seen. Windcharger should have been Overdrive, as he was in Binaltech. The Dodge Ram mold would have made a good Trailbreaker/Hoist. I thought about Kup, but it's a bit bulky for Kup's old man image, in my opinion.

I'd also like to have seen more of the Stunticons. As some of the few Decepticons who had auto modes, they'd have been logical choices for Alternators. Decepticharge would have been a good Dragstrip for example.

So yeah, I'd have gone with other character choices than some of the ones we got.

On the other hand, I was pleasantly surprised to see Grimlock and Shockwave turn up in the line. Even though auto modes don't necessarily fit the characters, the toys both look good, and Shockwave's silhouette mimics the original toy fairly well. I think they added some character variety to the Alternators that kept things interesting.

I would have really liked having Ironhide or Ratchet as the Scion instead of Skids. Nothing in particular against Skids, really, but the other two seem like they're just more iconic sorta Autobots, which would have made for the sort of toy that even people who hadn't seen the show in twenty years could look at and go "Hey, that's that one dude...".

Of course, I say that, but I liked the freakshow kinda characters, too. The guys that you wouldn't have thought would have a place in the line.

And, as I've said before, it's just a damn shame that those goofy Chevy semi-retro styled pickups didn't get made into Kup. Maybe it was too easy?

What about Broadcast? He was released as a Binaltech in Japan.
Same as the alts, but better quality.

Better "quality" is debatable. Paint chips, ahoy!

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

Broadblast was in the Binaltech Asterisk subline, so there was an even more inflated price and a silly PVC to go with, along with a limited run. He commands quite the price now, and also looks pretty lame in person. I mean, Blaster, really..

I'd have liked to see more true-to-form updates ala Tracks and Hound, and less leftfield 'to please the fans' silliness like Dead End.

Jaguar Ravage is sheer genius, though. Absolute genius. From Jaguar to Jaguar..and back!

I never had any trouble with paint chips on the 2 binaltechs I have, but I have had a few issues with the alts. Prime had cracked plastic, and Shockwave's gun arm never wanted to say on, even when I took him out of the box.
