Headed to Altoona for band practice, ended up nabbing:
-Arch Enemy t-shirt. It's got the album art from Wages Of Sin on it. I figure I need more band shirts anyway, and this was cheaper than most of the other shirts in the store.
-Evangelion manga, volume...4? The only decent thing in the bookstore. Weird that they only had this, though. I suppose now I have to get the rest of them. Sigh.
-Terminator 2 and Clerks 2 on DVD for a total of 'nine bucks.' Cheapass DVDs rule.
Also, while in Wal-Mart, I found the new GI Joe five-packs, and discovered that someone had opened one and stolen 'all the figures' from it:
Which is just freaking low.
Then I wandered over to the clearance section to see if 25th Prime is any cheaper now (He is not) and found This:
That's freaking sad as hell. Someone should get their ass kicked over this, seriously.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.
Atomic Robo Vol. 2: Atomic Robo and the Dogs of War- Swish. Despite unsure predictions from The Man Himself, this made it to my area. Yeah, I've got all the individual issues, and both of the trades so far. This series is THAT worth it.
DC Direct Watchmen: The Comedian and Dr. Manhattan- Haha! I may have missed the first wave of these (apparantly my local comic shop sold out of those FAST, but is getting a second order in next week) but I was there early today and got full choice of the second set. I left Classic Silk Spectre and Nite-Owl on the shelf, figuring that they'd shelfwarm, so I might have a chance to go back for Nite-Owl if I decide I really want him. I was definitely getting The Comedian, and it only took a moment of waffling to decide to grab Dr. Manhattan as well.
Both are nice figures, though Comedian's the clear winner. Thankfully, he's one of the designs who hasn't changed much from the comic to the movie, so he looks spot-on as a rendition of either. Lots of nice little detailing too, especially the paint on the boots and the shels he's storing in the back. The guns are extra-nice. They've got the happy faces tampo'd on them, along with some of THE SMALLEST text I've ever seen, which actually says "Richard Nixon 1970-To Edward Blake With Gratitude". I had to pull out an effing magnifying glass to read it, and even then it was close. Anyway, he can actually hold the pistols in full finger-through-the-trigger-guard configuration, though it takes some work to get it all fit together. The fingers are a softer plastic, so I'm not too worried about breaking them in this process, and the result is worth it. I am worried about the shoulder pads, which are only barely attached by a strip of soft plastic. It gives his shoulders a bit more motion, but feels...flimsy. I also wish that his elbows could bend more, and that his hips had more motion, but this is a DC Direct toy, so whatchagon'do? It's still a very nice toy of easily my favorite Watchmen character, and I'm ecstatic that I've got it.
Dr. Manhattan kind of pales in comparison, but is still a nice toy. Lots of well-done muscle sculpting, and the lightly sparkly blue plastic they've molded it in is a good choice. Sadly, he suffers from being more pre-posed than others. His hands are permanantly open, palms-out, and his arms can't come too close in to his body; they're meant to be spread out in an "I am the omnipotent bringer of ominous tidings!" pose, though you can kinda fiddle them into some slightly inquisitive poses. At least he still has elbows. His legs are the biggest sticking point: He's got two sets. His regular legs have the standard DC Direct hip and knee joints, though the way the hips are done allows for a lot more motion than usual on these toys, and can result in some pretty hilarious, un-Doc Manhattan-ish poses. The second set of legs can replace these from the waist down, and are totally unposeable, stuck in a legs-together, toes-down floating pose. It even has a clear second base to let him 'float' above his standard display base. It looks nice, but honestly DC Direct, when you're packaging whole extra half of an action figure just so the toy can assume a *specific* pose, you might wanna just start making your toys more posable. At least it would save me the trouble of figuring out where I'm going to hide the extra half-a-Dr. Manhattan when I've got him standing somewhere. But all these nitpicks are underscoring the fact that these toys are really display pieces, and very nice ones at that. Besides, after we finally get Watchmen toys after over twenty years, I'm hardly going to complain *that* much. Imagine if '86 had been right and the movie toys really had been done by Mattel. It could've been a *lot* worse...
So anyway, are there any plans for this line after this wave? There's still some characters I'd like to see, namely Classic Comedian and Hooded Justice. Wouldn't mind variants of Comedian and Rorschach with the gimp mask and blood spatter, respectively. And I guess I can only dream of a Prison Rorschach with Big Figure set...

I'm gonna be doing This with the third volume, because I just can't wait. I'll need to order the second volume TPB sooner or later.

My comic shop didn't get any of these at all, and besiding that they're 'way' more expensive than I'm willing to pay for what we're getting. But whatever.
Anyway. Stopped at said comic shop to waffle about and waste some time, maybe buy a few old-ass issues of 90s Valiant crap, but when I got there I saw AHM vol 1 staring me back in the face, and had to buy it. $20, but so worth it.

Out of curiosity, what store? I actually bought the set while we were down in Texas a couple of weeks ago, but took them back the same day as we were low on cash. They were all over the place down there, but I get back to Kansas and... nothing. STILL nothing. I'm afraid these are going to be among the many victims of the pre-movie ordering drought.

Actually... they were all over Austin a couple of weeks ago. At every Wal-Mart we went to, and even at Toys R Us. I'm really surprised you never saw 'em. (And now I'm even less optimistic about finding them again).
Sucks about Wonko's closing, by the way. I made an awesome find while I was there, only to find out days later they were closing.
I checked my local TRU and Walmart, no Cosmos. TRU didn't have Legends at all, Walmart only had about 3. Sadly, it's the fullest I've seen the TF shelves round these parts all month, things have been sort of barren lately.
Strangely though, TRU has Unicrons? I didn't know he was getting repackaged for Universe. Huh.
