I saw Oilslick live and in-package tonight at walmart, along with
THE INVASION OF GIANT SIZED STAR WARS CLONE WARS TOYS. Holy christ, that falcon is huge. I guess it didn't occur to me that the new "movie" would be accompanied by an onslaught of merchandise comparable to the other movies. Silly me. That being said, I actually do like the packaging.
ANYWAY, I got myself another hat. (by the way, I work in a hat store now)

It's pretty crazy and I'm not sure when I'll wear it, but it was a casualty of a collapsing metal grid and was too busted to sell, so I got it for free. I just finished reinforcing the crown with canvas and coating the outside with a little mod podge, so hopefully it'll hold together.

- Armada Smokescreen. He's hilariously terrible, see the topic!
- The Natural Born Killers soundtrack. Conceived and compiled by Trent Reznor. Woo? Has Burn on it, one of my favourite NIN tracks, and a selection of other great stuff. Leonard Cohen, even.
- A rug. Little wee one for my room. I'm oddly excited by this, but that's because I am a huge dork. It cost me eight dollars ninety seven, and I am well pleased.
- New sneakers. Ten bucks. Complaining I'm not.

Today was glorious.
I headed out for work early today, the hunting instinct driving me forward with GUSTO! First stop was Target. Hot damn, Ultra Classics! They had just one Onslaught and one Powerglide left, so what's a fella to do but get both?! They also had Animated Leaders, but I decided I was going to wait. After that I headed over to Wal-Mart. Well goddang, Animated Deluxe Wave 3! I decided to just get half of it for now, settling on Jazz and Soundwave. I'll go back for Slick and Snarl later. Aaaaaaand I also got Strawberry Panic DVD 3 and a Lostprophets CD but YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT THOSE!!
Some snippets, hopefully leading into full reviews. Keep in mind I've had the Animated guys out of their boxes for a good couple hours now (while watching Strawberry Panic, no less) while the Ultras came out only minutes ago, so I haven't much fiddle time with them.
Soundwave: Excellent. Just might be my favorite Animated Deluxe so far, even if he is a bit on the short side. Laserbeak is awesome, his transformation is clever, and his vehicle mode is many different kinds of nifty. Just a swell figure all around. Oh, and considering the Kamina shades and the fact that he uses a guitar as a weapon, I have to wonder if the design team wasn't on some sort of Gainax binge when they came up with this guy...
Jazz: Seems a little lackluster, but that might just be because I'm comparing him side-by-side with the impossible awesomeness of Soundwave. Main niggle is his hips: the ball joints have irritating stiffness degrees, and they can't *quite* manage the range of motion I'd prefer. And I wish his chest locked down in robot mode (does it? Am I missing something?). Still, sweet weapons, a cool vehicle mode, and he compliments Prowl nicely. But he's no Soundwave.
Onslaught: Big, blocky, nicely understated electronics, nifty-as-hell leg transformation, and a cool pop-out gun in robot mode. Terrific piece of work, this one, even if his upper legs look a little gappy to me. And you kinda have to stand him in a Pat Lee pelvic-thrust to get him to look right (otherwise the head points down too much for my tastes).
Powerglide: Noisy as hell, and his proportions are a bit off (mainly his HYOOOGE head! The eff is up with that thing?). Big, cool, vehicle mode, and a crazy awesome/awesome crazy transformation. Irritatingly, the shoulders don't lock in place too well, though the wing joints hold them up more or less okay. But damn, the electronics on this thing are gonna kill me. Getting his torso together sets off a rapid-fire chorus of the transformation sound, and if I even look at his back section funny in robot mode, he goes into a nonstop machinegun stream. Might pull the batteries out of this one before too long, but it's otherwise a decent toy. Rest assured though, Onslaught's better.

Will someone pick one up for me if they see them? I'll pay you...

No problem. But, you are as likely to find them as I. I plan to start hunting again when Wave 2 Deluxes hit, assuming I do not just get them online.

I'm seriously considering having him double as one of the Dreadnoks' bikes (if I get that 2-pack with the Trouble Bubble and RAM, the RAM's going to another Dreadnok, and the German Officer bike from the Indiana Jones line could be the third...)
The dreadful second volume of the DDP Joe/TF crossover had Dreadnoks riding about on Junkions.

Well being that you're in Bahstan, I'll probably have the wave 2 deluxes before you, as well as the Ultras. I'm just not patient.
