Yeah, that was Furman alright. It's cruddy because it clashes with some of the continuity bits established just a few issues before in Spotlight: Blurr. Or something! I remember that.

Not exactly. There's not really anything about Prime and Ironhide's relationship in Spotlight Blurr. AHM #13 has a flashback to Prime and Ironhide's first meeting. Ironhide is less than impressed and, given permission to speak his mind, says as much. AHM #9 or 10 have a conversation between Prime and Ironhide where they talk about that first meeting. Prime says that Ironhide hated him at first, which Ironhide first denies, then admits. Some reading-comprehension challenged fans (and I'm not talking about anyone here with that comment!) say that contradicts AHM #4 where Ironhide talks about dying for him, from the first day he met Prime. But I don't see any contradiction. Duty would cause Ironhide to die for a fellow Autobot, whether he liked them or not.

There may be something somewhere else that contradicts all of this, but the material published since AHM began is fairly consistent.

Given the various bits and pieces of his life that we've seen, Ironhide's past seems to go something like this:

Security guard at the raceway (Ironhide #2)
Autobot soldier with Kup and Optimus (pre-Prime) (Spotlight Blurr)
first meeting with Prime (AHM #13)
Prime's bodyguard (Ironhide #1)
At some point, Ironhide is attached to Prowl's unit and sent to Earth (Infiltration)
Some of the relationship is detailed in conversation during AHM. The various flashbacks in #13 could go anywhere after the first meeting.
