I will not have these lies in the video games thread. :P

*Ahem* Anyway... I've only played two Transformers games myself. The Beast Wars Transmetals game for N64 and Animated for the DS. The Beast Wars game I thought was enjoyable enough for a fighting game. Animated I thought was too easy and too short of a game. Essentially it's just 'use team work to get Autobots from point A to point B'.

I always get TF games when I see them. If I have the system (I don't have a DS which is the only reason I don't have TFA for it). I have the same thing going with Star Trek games, I have to buy them when I see them to support the franchise. I'm essentially hoping that if they do well enough more effort will be put into making decent games of them. And Star Trek has been FAR more disappointing in this dept than TF.

That said, I do have a 360 so I will get WFC when it comes out, but so far, most of my game purchases for the 360 have been through xbox live. Mostly it's older games like DOOM, Worms 3D, Pac Man, Ms. Pac Man, Galaga, etc...

I've only played a handful of the TF games out there. Beast Wars Transmetals for the PS1 was a lot better than its N64 counterpart. Much more solid and coherent. Just felt like there was more to it. Of course, it wasn't Power Stone or anything, but it didn't disappoint the poor little me who picked it up wanting a brawler with Beast Wars characters. And the cutscenes were *hilarious*.

I also had the first Movie's Transformers: Decepticons for the DS, and got a fair bit of enjoyment outta that one. Grand Theft Autobots, sure, but they made it work really well. Being able to scan pretty much anything for a vehicle mode was cool too, even if the helicopter altmode made the game way too easy. Plus, your character was voiced by Steve Blum. That's gotta be worth something.
Gomess wrote:Haven't played Blazblue, but I've watched LPs, the gameplay looks astounding (obvious, as a GG fan, I know), but the designs... hurt. It's like the least talented member of Ishiwatari's staff was given free reign. The first time I saw Ragna I thought, SOL AND DANTE HAD A KID?, and that Potemkin guy... Bleh. Arachne ("Arakune", srsly?) looks alright, but that's probably just because he reminds me of Eddie. The others that aren't GG ripoffs mostly seem messy and cheesecakey, with gimmicks for the sake of them. That Chinese-coded lady is a far worse example of misogyny than I-No; at least she was based on a real person! [/mini rant]
I agree about the character designs. We went from Guilty Gear's inspired brilliance to...generic anime stuff. Except for Taokaka. She is awesome and should've been in the new Guilty Gear had they decided to make one. I also kinda like Rachel, but that can be attributed to A) Goth-Loli and B) english voice is CC from Code Geass and it fits really well.

If you're looking for someone who can play kinda like Venom, you might wanna try out Nu-13 when you give the game a whirl. She can control space interestingly with her blades (though she doesn't require a degree in geometry like Venom did) and has a rushdown game that reminds me of Millia. She's the one I play, anyway.

Have you got the one on SNES? That's mostly just dialogue?? Claire's a TNG fan and even she couldn't handle its rip-roaring pace. It gave us literal seconds of enjoyment. But then... what SHOULD a Trek game be about? I'm not much of a fan, but when I saw a violent Trek FPS, my first thought was... "Isn't there some sort of Directive the series is based on... a Prime one, almost? About non-aggressive intervention...?" But the game was just BLAM BLAM SHOOT 'EM AALLLLL >_>

Ok prowl, I'll admit Nu sounds like my kinda character (and Venom's a rare breed), but I don't recall her name, so can only assume she's a boss..? If she's actually balanced, I'll give her a go, but no one ever thanks you for picking Justice in GG. XD To be honest, part of the reason I love GG is that it avoids obvious tropes like gothic lolitas and white-haired badasses (Chipp is a goof). I mean, really, you can't just shove pretty frills in anywhere!!

Am Me Grimlock cute, uguu~?

Anyway, Nu-13 (Normally written with that V-shaped 'Nu' symbol) was a boss in the original arcade version, I believe. However, her and the other boss, the Justice-shaped swordsman Haku-men are both selectable from the start in the console version of the game, and they're both balanced and legal as far as I know.

Man, GG had something better than Gothic Lolitas: PIRATE lolita! May is love.

Ah, so her name is written v-13? I've got a troubling habit of needing absolute accuracy when writing foreign character names in English (played havoc with a review of Dynasty Warriors I wrote; I've never used so many diacritics in my life!).

Lately I've also been trying to find decent licensed games, as I've been convinced by Saint Seiya - The Hades that they DO exist! I even went so far as to download a Game Gear emulator just to play the three X-Men games that came out for it. You can play as Shard! SHARD! Who remembers her?! Soyeah, I enjoyed the relative care that was put into such obscurity.

Are those X-Men... RPGs? RTSs? on PS2 any good? They look kinda drab and messy, small characters on dark backgrounds. I'm desperate for games based on cartoons I like! D=

X-Men Legends? Definitely. I played the first one on PS2 to completion with my brother. It's basically Gauntlet, really hack-and-slash, and occasionally it gets kind of repetitive (Enter room, kill all the bad guys, go to the next room, kill bad guys...) but that kind of thing never really bothers me, since they keep throwing enough cool X-Men Things into the story and levels to keep it interesting. You fight Sentinels! And then later you play as Professor X in a psychic realm or something like that. They also kinda shoehorn in these exploration-style bits where you're walking around the X-Mansion as Magma (before she gets her name and everything) which only serve to slow down the game a little bit, until eventually you can play as her. Also, you can pretty much choose between whoever you want from the characters you've unlocked to go into a mission, so there's plenty of different ways to play the game.

Huh, well it does SOUND cool. But can it pass my years-long Ultimate X-Men Game Challenge??

"Can Rogue pick up Gambit and fly so he can throw cards from the air?"

The day that happens is the day I buy a NEW X-Men game. My problem with many co-op games is that there's rarely any *preprogrammed* player interaction... tag team grapples, if you will. ;] You SHOULD be able to get two guys on one horse in Dynasty Warriors, but nooooo~

Most co-op attacks consist of "I'll hit the enemy, then you hit the enemy, then I'll hit the enemy, then--"

Once again, wrestling games, of all things, prove to be a pioneer. I still play tag team co-op on No Mercy...

I was part of the No Mercy Zone, the forum that revolutionized the way the game is modded now, since there's N64 texture replacement plugins. I was also a right dick because I was being cheated on, and now the whole community's full of assholes. It's hilarious.

Dunno if Rogue can pick up Gambit. In fact, I don't even know if Rogue is in the game. I never used her. Me and my brother were too busy leveling up Cyclops, Wolverine, Nightcrawler and Iceman. (Our problem was that by the time any of the cooler characters joined the party, we'd already invested leveling up Wolvie and Cycs that we didn't feel like using anybody else most of the time.) Also, if I remember right, you can switch between any of the four characters onscreen at literally any point.
