Plenty of Muslims here own businesses, but you're right that the US is exemplary when it comes to racial integration. Shouldn't be surprising, considering its history.

The ridiculous thing about the EDL (and something I'm going to help ensure people don't forget) is that, during the riots, Muslims did more to Defend England than they *ever* have. I saw Turkish men and women lining the streets of residential areas to stop rioters getting through where there were no cops. EDL? Stayed quiet until *today* and then acted all badman because they were marching through peaceful areas telling everyone not to worry.

Amazing update: Leader of EDL group in Bristol arrested after his group refused to disperse. I can just imagine his defence. "Oh, SURE, you'll arrest ME for protecting these fine people from last night's riots tonight by wandering aimlessly, but how many Muslims did you arrest on 7/7? Eh?? Eh??"

Hope this continues in tonight's peaceful vein, since I *was* planning to take my woman to Robin Hood's Bay this weekend. Civil unrest and holidays do not go hand-in-hand, but, hey, First World Problems.

How does England do with blind unity among groups?

One thing that I tend to see (far to much of) in the US is that the poor often band together and protect their worst elements. When authorities do appear with the intent of removing trouble makers, the very people who would benefit most from that removal complain the loudest about "members of their community" being arrested. One would expect them to the be happiest to see certain people removed.
