You appeal to my Evil Dead logic.

I never played Super Metroid.

Well, I mean, that's a misnomer. I had the controller in my hand and the game was in the console and I pushed buttons--but I never 'played' Super Metroid. You know. Seriously. The way you might've gone over to a friend's house in the early 2000s, and he had Grand Theft Auto 3, and you went around and killed some dudes, but you never played the game beyond that. That's Super Metroid for me.

And it's weird, because I love the Metroid series! Metroid Prime is on my, like, Top Ten Games Ever list. And I love Metroidvania-style games--Symphony of the Night is great. So it always kind of surprised me that I never played it and beat it.

So I've been changing that, and man, it feels good. It's like a missing piece of my past. Like discovering a band that's really old but totally new to you, and you get that feeling of, man, I wish I'd gotten into this sooner.

Gamefreak has made some pretty big announcements today... Pokemon's 6th Generation will be Pokemon X version and Y version for the Nintendo 3DS. And for the first time, these games will be released everywhere world wide in October of this year. No having to wait for localizations.

Holy cats, that was fast! Didn't we just get Black 2 and White 2 last year? When did new versions start coming out so quickly?

I got White version and played through a little of it, though not too deep (a lot of it was just 'too much to do' for me. I remember I dropped it because I got to that town with the ferris wheel and they were all "Look at all the shit you can do in this town!" and I was like "Nope, I'll get to it later!" then saved and, uh, never got around to it.). Maybe I'll get around to picking it back up again and playing through the whole thing sometime; I finished both Platinum and SoulSilver and got pretty into them, rather enjoyed it.

Interesting that they're fully abandoning color-based entries with these titles, though admittedly they were kinda running out of options, I guess. Also pretty much guarantees that the third version later will be 'Z Version', would be my guess. I'll check it out, though I'd be curious to see some of the monster designs. The ones from G5 didn't really catch my interest as much as the batch from G4 did (I loved a ton of those guys. Except for Bidoof, of course. ).

Yeah, B2/W2 came out in June for Japan and October for the rest of the world last year. Gotta say, I'm surprised the next generation games are coming out so soon as well. They certainly have become more efficient at making them.

Dunno if I'd say it guarantees it... After all Generation 5 released Black 2 and White 2 rather than a third version. They could continue that new trend, or even start another new one.

I'm certainly excited for Gen 6. I already like the look of the new Fire starter. Hopefully they don't make it yet another Fire/Fighting type as it evolves. With the last 3 Generations doing that in a row, I'd like to see something different.

Last month I downloaded a game called Fez for the 360. It's a fun 2D 3D adventure. You read that correctly, it's both 2D and 3D. It's a 2D side scroller but you can rotate the view to see the various sides of the level. It's fun and it forces you to change your perspective.

Pokemon W and Z?

Yeah, I'm with you, variety is good. Don't get me wrong, I loved Chimchar>Infernape and Fire/FIghting is an amazing combination (Fighting's up there with Ghost for my all-time favorite types, too), but they definitely need to try something new. I'm leaning towards the water starter on this one, that little frog is pretty cute, and I almost never pick the water starter (not since Totodile let me down)!

Or Y2 and X2. Who knows... Anything is possible at this point.

I found myself using a Mudkip more than the Torchic I started with in the 3rd Gen, so the last two generations I've started out with the water starter, Oshawott and Piplup. It'd be nice to choose the Fire starter again.

FEZ IS THE SHIT. If you have an Xbox, go buy it. Once you beat the game once, everything gets blown open and then you can start solving all the REAL puzzles. I 200%d the game. (Or whatever number it was. I think 218%.)

My theory on the current Pokemon is that this has actually been in dev as far back as the 3DS' development, and BW2 was kind of a stopgap or cash grab release. Because XY has full models and animations for EVERY POKEMON, including the new ones, so it would have taken a fuckload of time to do.

Well they released the Pokedex 3D in 2011 (and 3D Pro in 2012) for download on the 3DS, so they've actually had full models and animations for the majority of Pokemon for a couple years now. Although I'd agree, X and Y have probably been in development for several years.
