I hadn't looked at it that way, but there really are a lot. MP-10 was released US a year ago, but overseas in 2011. )I dunno about ALL of that cast, there were deluxe insecticons, some forgettable minibots, deluxe autobots (Whirl & Roadbuster), Reflector... there are some thisses and thats which don't seem like they'd sell, but the majority would.I would argue that all of the 1984-85 cast could credibly be made in "Masterpiece" form. (I would not buy many of them. But, the market exists.) And, there are more than a few characters from 86 and later that could be made. (I am personally hoping for, but hardly expecting, "Armada" Optimus Prime.)
Get Henkei Megs. Seriously. I got one when he was current, and I never regretted it. Fixes all the problems of the colour scheme. The way they designed the toy is a deliberate misreading of the original box art. Most of the early G1 box art was drawn in a way that you appeared to be looking up at the robots, the way you would if they were actually in front of you, life-size. Which makes sense--you really want to sell the idea that these guys are fucking huge. You can get a God Ginrai reissue--even the US version--for about $200. (I realize that's not really "affordable.") But you're right, I would also kill and eat an orphanage for one.I would kill and eat a hobo to get a Masterpiece Ginrai. It would actively stop me from poking around on eBay for an affordable version of the G1 toy. And this is me, not even liking Masterpiece that much! The fact that I think he's got the second-best shot at this thing, after Star Saber, gives me some hope, too.
As a kids toy, it's ok, it's got some fiddle value. But it's not good at moving, posing, being displayed with other Transformers; it's not as sharply sculpted and its features are a little childish. I saw more than a few at Botcon and there is a lot of love lost for that mold right now, apparently everybody seems into the Ginrai version but not the US one and that's IMO because the Ginrai version is rare and Japanese, not because the mold itself is in any way desirable.Onslaught Six wrote:Man, you guys are harsh.
