I like what IDW has going, and would like to see it continue, but at the same time I always felt that Marvel G1 ended just when it was getting good. I honestly wouldn't mind going back and seeing what Furman had planned, though I'd rather see a continuation of G2, truth be told. But I think Furman isn't too fond of that series these days, sadly.
Hehe, maybe he just doesn't wanna force an artist to have to draw Breakdown in those hideous neon colors!

Breakdown wasn't even 'in' G2...That's the biggest thing about G2; besides Megatron there were barely any actual G2 guys in it.

The problem with G2 is that it would force changes to the status quo, which the fandom (and possible Furman) would be unhappy with.

-thinks we should probably start o a new thread when the actual comic starts.

I'm gonna' laugh when all the people rush out to pick up TF 81 and none of the '84, '85 cast is in it.

that's my biggest beef with not wanting a contination of marvel TF G-1 #81. why bother if all the popular transformers got killed/beyond repair damaged during the comics issues. a big chunck of the 1984/1985 cast got killed or were offline after the events of issue #50. where starscream grew really big & killed/damaged dozens of transformers. then unicron killed dozens more in issues #73 thru issue #76

Yeah, I'm wondering about that. Is Furman gonna go with just the guys he had left as of issue #80, or is it gonna go with what characters would have been in the comics at the time? I've read that Furman didn't care for Action Masters at all, and man, there would've been a few of those in the last years of G1. This book probably has the least tie-in with a toyline of any of 'em, so it could be interesting to see what goes down.

There are actually a number of the 84-85 cast active in the last few issues of the book, even if some of them are Action Masters. Not that the book states that outright. Prowl, Grimlock, Prime, Wheeljack... and I could find others if I went back and cracked open the actual issues. But there are plenty of others from the later years of G1 too, and that's no bad thing.
I don't mind reading two continuities at once. Works for me.

Furman has already said that this book will basically be a future story--the 2011 of the Marvel universe, post-Unicron-being-destroyed-in-1991.

If this follows the pattern of the "GI Joe" continuation, there will be a few point that carry over from the original run, (Action Masters or Unicron's destruction), and then the book will fall into a stasis quo.
I admit to being curious. But, my hopes are sensibly low.

I think i'm gonna go the "06" approach & buy various IDW TF comics in 2012 by the Trade paper back format. I'll most likely be ordering from amazon.com & wait 6 months in june 2012 to get various G-1 TF related IDW TPB Comics
