Except up until those five minutes where the Decepticons were chasing them, the Allspark was lost somewhere unknown in the Universe. For all they knew, the Decepticons had it 'then,' too.
Probably, but still if that's what they had done, it's pretty careless to end the investigation so quickly when something like the Allspark is at stake.
Except, well. Here's the thing: 'You're' placing a lot of unnecessary importance on the AllSpark that Magnus et al are distinctly Not. Even if the overall story arc of S2 is distinctly "Look for AllSpark fragments," it's not like 'Prime and co.' are actively searching for them. They just kinda wait until one falls into their laps.
Nobody said it made sense from a typical point of view, but sometimes you have to remember that these are characters in a story, and sometimes they do things that *don't make sense.* Of course, what I really want to say is that "They're people, and sometimes people do things that don't make sense," but Transformers aren't people, they're robots. Very people-like robots.
