I've been aware of Doctor Who for some time now, but there seems to be a swell in it's popularity lately, or at least in the frequency with which I hear about it. It's one of those things I wish I was in on but it feels too big for me to get started. I'm only just now getting into this thing called "Firefly" or something, I guess that was a big deal

Didn't they consider that when they were making the 1996 TV movie? Most of the reboot treatments I've seen from that time period read like bad fan-fiction.
The show pretty much has a built-in reboot already. Every time the lead actor changes, it feels like a different show, even if the basic format remains the same. I'm not sure starting over from scratch really offers much that a regeneration doesn't.

I was wondering that myself. He's my fellow Doctor Who/Robot Heroes fan who will almost always chime in on discussions about either topic, but I haven't seen him here or at other boards that I frequent.

I'll give the new Doctor a chance-- no one seems to know much about him, but at least he looks... interesting. And as long as he's a good actor, the less-known the better, I say. That will make him seem more like The Doctor, and not just someone famous hired for their name.

I haven't seen him on MSN, either. (Wait, do I have Scourge on MSN?)
I hope he's alright.

Yeah, I've been wondering where Scourge has been for a bit. I think his PC died, he said as much in the hauls thread. But even so..

No more reboots, it's such a bad habit. "I know better than the creators of this material and have studio backing, mwa ha ha!!!"

That's the same type of attitude that galled me with Lord of the Rings. They loved the book so much they wanted to make a movie out of it... but then they go and change a ton of details. At least with Doctor Who, the format of the show allows for constant reinvention without it looking like a reboot.

IMO, that's not fair, the LOTR movies are the first live-action adaptation, it's not a reboot of a franchise since LOTR wasn't a franchise anyway. I didn't care for the books, which nearly cost me viewing the movies, but once I did, I was hooked.
