Re: October Hauls
My big box from AmiAmi this month showed up today (okay technically it showed up yesterday, but you have to pick registered mail up from the post office the day after they leave a notice for you) bringing two things I was highly anticipating and one thing that turned out better than I expected!
Super Robot Chogokin DaiZyuJin- AKA SRC The Megazord. I was already anticipating this thing as a contender for my Toy of the Year before it arrived, and it does not disappoint. The legs and chest are almost completely metal, giving it some serious heft, and it's always advantageous when you feel like you could use a toy to bludgeon someone to death. But the real winning part of this toy is the Everything Else, beginning and ending with the articulation. It's astounding that they were able to cram this much posability into a boxy, early-90's, toku-suit-robot, but they did. The knees bend double, the ankles pull out to allow greater range of their ball joints, and the triceratops/saber-tooth-tiger heads can flip up in that position for unreal ankle articulation out of this design, the shoulders have little swing out joints, the elbows bend double with the arms sporting dramatic wrist hinges that let the whole thing practically be *triple* jointed, the head's on two joints and the mid-section pops up to give it an ab crunch because fuck, why not, at this point? No skimp on gimmicks and weapons either, there's the sword, with this ballin' sheathe-on electric effect part, that mammoth head shield that the thing practically never used, the back cannons do this sweet little jointed maneuver to swing up alongside its head, and there's another electric effect part to connect to the central horn on the head for a 'God Horn' attack effect (which I'm honestly blanking on whether I ever saw it used in MMPR). tl;dr it's a fantastic toy and the absolute best toy of DaiZyuJin/The Megazord we're ever going to get unless they go really crazy and make a huge, balls-expensive Soul of Chogokin version that can separate into the individual components.
figma Tachibana Hibiki- Interesting how this one turned out: Saw people posting preview pics of this one on /toy/, thought the design looked really neat, figured I needed a few more figmas that *weren't* Bakemonogatari characters, added her to my pre-order list, then decided that I should probably at least check out this Symphogear show she was from. Turns out said show's an absolute blast, not the deepest or most creative thing in the world, but it more than makes up for those shortcomings in sheer entertainment and excitement value; it's fun as hell. The figma's, well, as cool as it should've been to make me check this show out. The attention to show-details is as superb as ever (she has two sets of feet, one with armored heels, one without as per an especially cool moment partway through the show), and coming with separate effect parts for each hand is cool too (not to mention extra Big-O-pullback-punch-y parts for each hand). And the rape-face, that glorious rape-face that graces my avatar at this moment, she comes with that as well. It is strange then, with all that, that she *doesn't* come with her armor's trademark sword Durandal, though considering she used it all of twice in the show (despite that 'trademark' bit), and the possibility of other versions of Hibiki getting figmas in the future (what with the show, and thus the toyline most likely, getting renewed for a second season) means there'll be plenty of opportunities for Durandal to be packed in with...something. Only other issue is that the little spiky bits on the back of her are a little too easy to jog loose and make fall out, though it's possible that's a contingency to their relative thinness, since if they were fully secured, they'd just be asking to be snapped off permanent-like. Just a great toy of a cool design that got me to love a stupid show, and that sort of thing is pretty fun sometimes.
SH Figuarts Red Buster- Pre-ordered this one the second it was put up since I'm really liking Go-Busters and their suit designs and you have to move fast on Figuartses if you want them, but as preview pictures trickled out, I became somewhat disenchanted with the approaching arrival of this figure. Some of the proportions of him (and his exclusively-released Yellow and Blue cohorts) seemed kinda 'off', like the SHF sculptors didn't quite 'get' the Go-Busters designs (they are a far departure from the usual Sentai looks). Fortunately, once I had him in-hand, ol' Hiromu didn't seem too bad. Granted, there are other issues with the figure I didn't foresee: His shoulders are exceptionally poorly designed (the bits with the shoulder-belts really shoulda been separate, movable over-pieces), restricting movement of his arms and pretty much preventing his right arm from tapping his Transpod or pressing his Morphin Brace convincingly. Everything else about the figure is fine, comes with all his weapons, hands snap on snugly and impressively joint-inconspicuously, but the gimped shoulders definitely hold the whole package back. At least he *looks* nicer than I was expecting. Worth getting this one, but I don't think I'm gonna fret over trying to get his exclusive teammates, though I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for how they release Beet Buster, Stag Buster, and especially Beet J Stag, who we all know is the *real* star of the show.
Also swung by Toys R Us today, hoping that maybe they'd found another case of GDO Generations Deluxes to put out. So close yet so far: Apparently some Basics made it out! But all they had was Sandstorm (who I'm not exceptionally enamored with) and Laserbeak (who I already paid to have shipped from TRU's website, essentially guaranteeing that I would see him in every TRU I go into for the next four years). Shucks. But then I took a detour to check out the new TMNT toys (seeing that MASSIVE playset they're hocking and I would be *lying* if I said I wasn't tempted) and found that they had just *one* Metalhead left (Metalhead and Dogpound being the new toys that are *extremely* shortpacked into the new case revision of TMNT toys). I'd been hoping I would run across one of these bad boys, since I've loved Metalhead's design for this ever since we saw the prototype at SDCC (or was it Toyfair?), so I snapped it up, despite being aware that he suffered from Playmates' decision to stick to rather...basic articulation for everyone but the four main Turtles. Metalhead's about 50/50, his legs are just as articulated as the main Turtles', but his arms just have basic swivel shoulders with cut swivel elbows, his right one being preposed bent at the elbow to facilitate a rather lame flick-fire missile 'gimmick'. So he's not a total wash, but could definitely be better. At least he looks awesome as hell, love little touches like his shell being a manhole cover, and it's not like my buying the Turtles has left me hurting for extra weapons or something.
A note: Metalhead's packaging has him labeled as a good guy, an ally/helper to the Turtles, but some will know that the original Metalhead went through a couple good guy/bad guy phases in the old cartoon. I'm wondering if this packaging is pulling a Sigma 6 Firefly on us and trying not to spoil an eventual side-switch for the character. Apparently this show's started? I should check it out.

Re: October Hauls
Some stuff showed up in the mail this week, so here's what I got lately:
2x RID Vehicons - great figure, second only to Wheeljack.
2x Star Wars Speeder Bike with Scout Trooper - very nice setup, only so-so QC but the bike looks great, the extra parts (landing leg, standing turret that snaps onto bike) are a'ight, figure is very nice and fits on the bike quite well, and it has a stand!
Goldfinger Blu-Ray
The Avengers Blu-Ray with Target-exclusive extra disc
I cannot believe how much MLP you guys were talking in here.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?
Re: October Hauls
What is wrong with MLP?
In any case, my recent haul:
I treated the last check from the canvasing job as a windfall. Besides picking up a good sized pile of comics (more than I have managed to read, and there is still some stuff left in my file), along with a few TFPrime figures.
-Vehicon
-Deadend
Dom
-listening to the included DVD as background noise right now.

Re: October Hauls
Got another shipment from Toys R Us, this time containing GDO Generations Springer and Wheelie! Yeah, the GDO guys restocked on TRU’s website, so I pounced on the ones I wanted (though if he’s still up there next week I might get Cliffjumper as well). Quickies:
Springer’s pretty much what I wanted out of the toy, a solid, attractive redeco in classy Springer colors (unlike the Universe version from a few years back, this incarnation knows that there’s more to Springer’s color scheme that just GREEN). I definitely think I like this mold better in this look, Tomahawk’s grey and black was kinda boring, and the sword really helps his options are far as dynamic posing and so forth. The head being on a very mobile ball-joint mounted on a posable strut helps with that too. A solid toy, and he’ll be further complimented by the Wreckers we’re getting next year (I’m also mildly tempted to pick up GDO Sandstorm to go with him as well).
Wheelie is impressive just for fixing a lot of the problems I had with the Jazz mold. Him not being Jazz kinda mitigates the door-wing issue (yeah, Wheelie doesn’t have door-wings either, but this version is obviously not trying to look like a specific version of Wheelie), his vehicle mode actually has the back-window painted (though it’s admittedly a token gesture, since the window is painted silver while the other windows are molded in clear plastic), and his chest even holds down a little better in robot mode, chock that up to better tolerances with the plastic used. Wheelie even gets a characteristic smile molded into the face of his new headsculpt, and the double-duty slingshot/gun is a great inclusion. One little niggle I have is his upper calves, they look…kinda not good in their molded half-and-half colors, painting the whole things over would have been preferable. Of course, we might not have gotten that back window painted then. I wonder how he looks riding MP Grimlock…

Re: October Hauls
So I was at Toys R Us last night (it’s been easier for me to get to TRU lately since I’ve got a group of friends living in a place the route to which takes me RIGHT BY one), and didn’t really expect to see any TFs I wanted (though there were still a couple Sandstorms and that Laserbeak, and I have to admit that I like Laserbeak’s mold as a troop builder enough that I’m almost thinking about buying it as an extra), so I ended up looking at the Ponies too, natch. They had actually gotten in a restock of that special box set that has the figures of Nightmare Moon, DJ PON-3, Trixie, and a few others, and I’d been thinking about it, honestly, but it was like forty bucks, which is was too insane a price to spend on ponies, for me. So I’m looking at it and thinking “If it goes on sale later, maybe I’ll pick it up, because honestly I just want it for Trixie. Hey, what’s that? A single-pack Trixie?!” I had to do a double-take to make sure it wasn’t some other blue Pony, but yeah, it was definitely Trixe, properly labeled and characterized and everything. Apparently not really keeping up on Pony toy releases has its drawbacks, since I had no idea this thing was coming out (and it’s apparently shortpacked/in high demand too, since it was the only Trixie in the pile of parallel ponies parked on the pegs). These things are like five bucks, I snagged her.
So now I have a legit Trixie toy (I already had a custom minifigure Trixie my cousin had made for me, plus I wound up with her trading card out of the one pack of those I bought, I’m getting dangerous close to being able to start a Trixie shrine). She doesn’t come with her hat and cape, sadly, I’m gonna see if I can’t commission my sister-in-law who likes doing such things to make a set for me. Hilariously, the accessory she does come with is an opening gift box for the wedding every pony in this subline is invited to, a gift box containing NOTHING! Because she’s The Great and Powerful Trixie, and even an empty box received from her is superior to any gift given by some lesser Pony.
Trixie’s awesome, I hope she finally returns in Season 3.

Re: October Hauls
Are you referring to the Laserbeak that's the repaint of ROTF Sunspot? I do like that mold and it looks good as Laserbeak, but I'm staying away from the movie aesthetics altogether.
So I'm not selling anything on ebay anymore. But, I still have that MOTU Classics subscription. Which means that I wound up with Dragon Blaster Skeletor, the Snake Men two pack, and Rattlor. All of which I couldn't care less about. So, I went in to Toy Fusion and traded shit I didn't want for shit I did want. Nabbed Regular Classics Skeletor, He-Man, and Classics Starscream. From the last two months of the sub I kept Mechanek and Frosta. Also, while at Toy Fusion, has anyone here watched Collection Intervention on the sci fi channel? Well there was this couple on there where the girl wanted to move in with the guy but couldn't because he had too many toys and the solution was that they took him and several of his toys to Toy Fusion to make room for the girlfriend. Well they were there and I nabbed Legends Prowl for $2. The RTS that was really hard to find. Score. And they were nice people too.

On a whim, I took a walk to a mall near campus after studying yesterday. The mall hosts one of those hermit-crab toy stores...and that store has blind buy ponies. There are ways of figuring out what pony is in the bag. And, I managed to snag a Rainbow Dash and two male mould ponies for customizing.

Re: October Hauls
The other day, just in time for Halloween, I found a TFPrime FE Terrorcon Cliffjumper at TRU. Hey, cool, I’d just been kind of disappointed that I missed my opportunity to get GDO Cliffjumper the last time, since I kinda wanted to check out this mold, and Zombie Cliff is at least a little more interesting than just one more regular Cliffjumper; he got snagged. Cool little toy, I really like the use of clear purple on him, and stuff like how the legs transform. Hand cannons are neat, and the new headsculpt is cool and all. The plastic feels a little thin in places, and I do find it incredibly ridiculous/hilarious that they sculpted tiny fake wheels on the backs of his calves then didn’t even paint them. What the hell is even the point of those? Not a bad toy though, at the end of the day.
Also got a package! Week or two ago, I saw someone on /toy/’s Buy/Sell/Trade thread selling a figma Canaan for twenty bucks. Well, I’ve been wanting Canaan for some time, since I really liked the show, she looked like a cool toy, and I wanted a Type/Moon-related figma, but didn’t feel like buying one of their overabundance of Sabers (seriously, if any of you follow figmas, Saber is the Bumblebee of the line. Which I guess makes Miku the Optimus Prime). So I e-mailed the guy about selling it, and it turned out to be CrossRook! Yes, that CrossRook! Whatever, right? Anyway, bought, paid, Canaan arrived yesterday, and she’s pretty cool. The gun has a tiny little slide-action, that surprised me, and it’s even designed to have the muzzle flash effect part attached in the proper position. Otherwise she just comes with the usual extra hands and faces, though the extra hands are at least designed for additional gun poses (and one that has her holding her beloved candy sticks). The wrists are a bit tighter than I’m used to on a figma, twisting them gives me a bit of the case of the heebie-jeebies, but otherwise she’s a completely solid figure, and finally having the figma of Jackie Brownpants, Renegade Accountant makes me happy.

I found+bought a TFP Voyager sized Dreadwing a few days ago at my local Target store. the toy only cost $19.99,don't know if it was a sale ort regular price.
I gotta say, hands down TFP Voyager Dreadwing,Is the best voyager toy released thus far. it's such a awesome high sculpted toy in both modes. the toy is a decent tall height,is kinda bulky, decent transformation levels & the weapons it comes with are great.
