Yeah, I actually thought about that after my comment about how it could just as easily be Street Sharks or Battletoads, when I realized that the 'Anthropomorphic Alien Ass-kickers' thing lent itself best of all to a Biker Mice adaptation. No idea why Bay didn't just go with that.Sparky Prime wrote:How about Modo, Throddle, Vinnie and Tony? And suddenly you've got Biker Mice from Mars.

Re: Bay Ninja Turtles Obligatory Bitch Thread
I was reading an interview with Eastman (I think) or Bay. I can't recall. But they kept going on how it would be so much more beneficial to the story if they had a whole planet full of turtles, and how that would allow them to bring in new turtle characters whenever they liked. I'm pretty sure that when they say the TMNTs are aliens, they really mean it- not a misunderstanding or a lost in translation moment. They really want the turtles to be from another planet.
In which case their UFO needs to be a flying turtle shell. Or Gamera.
But no, this is the stupidest reboot/reimagining I've ever heard. I don't know how any of the other story elements are going to work in this new take. What happens to the whole backstory with Splinter and Shredder? Is there any backstory? Is there any Splinter? Is Shredder just some random guy that the turtles happen to come up against now? Does the Foot Clan even matter now? And for as original and fresh as this reboot is apparently trying to be, TMNT already did it!!

Bay's company can't even grasp the most basic tenants of the concept. It'd be like if the Transformers weren't aliens from Cybertron anymore, but just super advanced, transforming cars and trucks made by Earth-based car companies. None of us would accept that, and I'm not accepting Bay's TMNT.

To be quite honest. the TMNT francise has been in the toilet for almost two decades. I hardly think anything micheal bay does will make it any worse than it already is.
I joked elsewhere, that this TMNT story where the turtles come from a turtle planet is a parody/ripp off of the 1980's howard the duck movie. In the beggining of the howard the duck movie, viewers get to see a female duck in the bath tub & they see her duck boobies.
It would be leaps & bounds awesome if this was repeated for the TMNT Micheal bay movie, where viewers get to see a female turtles boobies.
Playmates the toy liscense holder of the turtles doesn't care about creating decent TMNT movies, they've made 4 or 5 that were horrible. Playmates creates horrible TMNT movies because their in it just for the toy profits. playmates knows that movie toys sales are far greater than cartoon show toy sales, that's why they create all these awful TMNT movies.
Micheal bay clearly thinks he's a god & has a very high ego. the man has no shame in ruining established fiction from years ago. personally I don't think the blame is solely micheal bay's fault. half of the blame rest on the shoulders of the toy companies that hire micheal bay. if a company is stupid enough to hire micheal bay then they deserve to get their francise ruined & re-created into a abomination.

Like the turtles being mutants stopped them from doing that before? Sounds like something Bay would say to me...Mako Crab wrote:I was reading an interview with Eastman (I think) or Bay. I'd argue the franchise still being around disproves that. The cartoon series in-particular have been quite successful with the first running from 1987-1996 and the second 2003-2009. The 4 movies have mixed reviews, and some have been better than others, but that's not uncommon for comic book based films.Tigermegatron wrote:To be quite honest. the TMNT francise has been in the toilet for almost two decades.

Playmates has no creative say over anything in the franchise, they just hold the rights to make the toys. The license holder for the TMNT franchise was recently sold to Nickelodeon, and as I understand it was previously held by Mirage Studios with deals through various companies for animation, comics and film ventures over the years.Playmates the toy liscense holder of the turtles doesn't care about creating decent TMNT movies
Re: Bay Ninja Turtles Obligatory Bitch Thread
I know! Which only further invalidates the need to have them come from another planet. At first I thought maybe this was part of Bay's typical misinformation campaign, but then I read that interview with Kevin Eastman. Unless Bay's got Eastman onboard with spreading misinformation, I'm thinking they really do mean what they say.Sparky Prime wrote:Like the turtles being mutants stopped them from doing that before? Found the interview with comments from both Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. Laird seems in total disapproval of the idea, while Eastman is all for it.

Re: Bay Ninja Turtles Obligatory Bitch Thread
[quote="BWprowl"]With what we’ve been given of Bay’s Ninja Turtles so far, this could just as easily be a Battletoads or a Street Sharks movie, all you’d have to do is change the species that the aliens resemble.
Now that is true. Change enough and the only point to naming it TMNT is marketing, and I don't really appreciate that. I'm just holding out a bit of hope (a wee bit, mind you) that it still might not suck despite all the reported changes.
It's Bay, though, and.... yeah.
Also,
Spoiler
If Bay or anyone else makes a live-action Street Sharks movie, I will be there on opening night.

I would totally watch the shit out of a Street Sharks movie.

It's interesting to see the divide among the two creators. Although Laird does express some optimism towards the idea of alien Turtles...Mako Crab wrote:Found the interview with comments from both Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. Laird wrote:"If FOUR Ninja Turtles are good, then FIVE (or more) Ninja Turtles MUST be better!". Anyway, to get back to the "TMNT are aliens" thing -- the reason I say it could be a "genius" idea is that -- for the first time -- someone has come up with a way to have as many freakin' Turtles as they want. I mean, if the TMNT are actually members of an alien race, there could be a whole PLANET of them!
Re: Bay Ninja Turtles Obligatory Bitch Thread
I thought that part was pretty clearly a negative. The whole quote reads:
But yeah- no one's asking for more turtles. I don't get why they feel they need more than the 4 brothers.Let me explain... Over the years, I have made no secret of my distaste for what I consider to be the weak, facile, creatively bankrupt idea which can be summed up like this: "If FOUR Ninja Turtles are good, then FIVE (or more) Ninja Turtles MUST be better!" ...

Right, I get the impression he's being sarcastic there, but still, he also expresses he feels the idea could work. Which the article points out better just before they use that quote.Mako Crab wrote:I thought that part was pretty clearly a negative. The whole quote reads:
I just wanted to use that quote to point out that they've tried introducing another Turtle before, with poor results. From what I've been reading, apparently Peter Laird is very outspoken against anything to do with Venus or female turtles as a result.
