I just noticed that in my collection, when I have a "versus" setup it's almost always bot vs bot, and not robot vs alt mode.
I realized this mainly because I had transformed Generations Blitzwing earlier today and he's next to my TV in robot mode, yet when I walked to the kitchen I noticed Generations Springer in helicopter mode on my coffee table and felt the need to transform him to robot mode as well. This despite the fact that they're not even on the same table right now, they shipped together and thus stay together in my mind for the time being. I generally don't even have them in different triple-changer modes, when Springer's a car Blitzwing will be a tank. I'm not sure if this is a conscious choice.
Maybe it's because they don't display well that way, Starscream in jet mode fighting Optimus in robot mode is just a robot looking at a jet sitting on a shelf, there's no sense of action or scale that way. But that's not fair to the Decepticons especially, powerful war machines bent on galactic conquest.
Dunno really, it's an odd thought, but I figured I'd bring it to you guys.
Do you normally display TFs bot vs bot, or bot vs alt mode?

Do you normally display TFs bot vs bot, or bot vs alt mode?

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

I generally display my figures in the same mode. Right now they're all in bot mode, but sometimes I'll display them in vehicle mode. When I have a battle scene set up it will depend on what makes sense for the scene I'm putting together. Sometimes if I want to show a bot destroyed or malfunctioning I'll display it mid transform for effect.

The majority of my figures are displayed in robot mode but I do have several in their alternate forms as well. I think I originally did it that way because I thought it might save on space, but I'm not sure it really made much of a difference.

Typically, I display my figs in robot mode but store them in their altmodes, unless said altmodes have a lot of extraneous parts jutting out or jointed limbs (in the case of, say, beast-formers with insect alt modes) that could be subject to undue stress.

99% of my TF toys on display shelves are in robot mode.
Only Two of my transformers on display are in beast mode. MP Grimlock & FOC Grimlock. Primarily due to Grimlock in the 1986 season 3 being mostly in his dino mode most of the time.
I don't have any of my robots on display in any stand off/verse confrontation display poses.

I have no pattern. Most of my Transformers are standing or stacked in a couple of cabinets, or in storage totes, and a few are randomly on display here and there throughout the house.

How I display a TF depends on where it is.
Generally, at or above "see level", TFs are displayed in robot mode. And, at or below "see level", it varies but vehicles modes are likely.
Regardless of modes, the displays tend to be static. I will generally position figures in ways that obligate me to use more than one point of articulation, just because the articulation is there.
I gave up on "action scenes" years ago. Between the fact that they take up huge amounts of space, I have rarely been able to get them to look good enough to justify that space. (If I had the time, space and money for proper backgrounds and props, I would be more likely to set up action scenes.)
The last proper action scene I set up involved displaying several "Heroes of Cybertron" PVC figures (both factory and customized) on a piece of industrial terrain that I bought and painted. I will stand by the paint work on all of it. But, the lack of articulation on the figures made it hard to make it look like the figures belonged there.

Yeah, I'm the same on that.Shockwave wrote:I generally display my figures in the same mode. Right now they're all in bot mode, but sometimes I'll display them in vehicle mode. At first I thought that it saved on space to have them in alt mode, but generally the lack of vertical space in alt mode ends up meaning they have a large footprint with a lot of unused air over them.Sparky Prime wrote:The majority of my figures are displayed in robot mode but I do have several in their alternate forms as well. That is me as well, storage generally is altmodes, they seem more whole that way. When it comes to helicopter bots and propeller bots, I find them the most difficult to store, I had those in a special moving box when I moved.Almighty Unicron wrote:Typically, I display my figs in robot mode but store them in their altmodes, unless said altmodes have a lot of extraneous parts jutting out or jointed limbs (in the case of, say, beast-formers with insect alt modes) that could be subject to undue stress.
