Sorry bro. I am going to be pounding the pavement (or temping) soon myself.

That said, on the way home yesterday (after posting about the A+ here) I decided to reward myself. (And, it was a nice night, so even a fruitless toy hunt would yield a walk.) After skipping "Marvel Legends" Hyperion (as that line is an obvious trap waiting to be sprung) and Minimates "Battle Beasts" (as I do not like the comic enough).....

Guardians of the Galaxy 4 pack:
I was tempted by this about a month or so back, but I waffled long enough for it to disappear from store shelves. Last night, when I figured I had earned a reward and after I had already skipped a few things, I found one with good paint. And, I had the money on me.

All things considered, I should have gone with Hyperion, Voyager TFP Shockwave, an extra "Marvel Legends" Iron Man mkIV (for customizing) or most anything else.

Starlord is the most obviously flawed figure due to the thigh swivels and some moulded details that do not correspond to the seams between moving parts on the toy. I was able to live with those things. Drax is not a bad figure, but it is clearly using hands that were initially moulded to hold guns. Rocket Racoon is a damned PVC with one point of articulation, a ball-jointed tail. (I just assumed that the head and waist would be articulated as well. Curse me for a toy-collecting fool.)

I like the new Guardians in a kind of vague way. I have been meaning to read "Annihilation" and am a little curious about the Bendis series. And, I wanted to like this set. I was almost giddy when I got home. But, at this point, I am more or less done with 4 inch Marvel figures.

Grade: D

Damn O6, that sucks! Hope you find something soon.

Dom, you found voyager BH Shockwave? I'm still looking for that thing around here and... once again, Sacramento remains a giant freakin' toy desert. Man, they fucked that up, Shockwave should have been in the first wave with Prime and Predaking just to at least break things up a bit. All that's out there right now is a solid wall of those two and we have to wait for that to get clearanced before Shockwave will turn up. Thanks Hasbro, thanks a lot. :(

Prime voyager Shockwave - an interesting figure, looks good from a "trying to be like the movie guy in some ways" way, but has some frustrating design choices like hip ratchets too far apart and sliders with no stops. Vehicle mode is mediocre, although the tracks spread away from each other on telescoping posts which helps a bit. What's good is good, what's not good is pretty rough sailing, but overall he has more pros than cons. K-mart, if you can believe it, and normal price no less of $22! ("No way! Kmart?!?" I know, right? Seriously, who'da thunk.)

Fear of a Black Planet, Public Enemy

The Very Beast of Dio - had an expiring Best Buy rewards cert and CD shipping is free, and a lot of Dio albums are chock full of awful to get to the gold, so a free bypassing of that was worth it (although Man on the Silver Mountain is a very short live version).

All Star Superman single collected TPB

The machine gun lights up, vibrates (???) and makes dumb machine gun noises; the shotgun just makes dumb noises and has a hilariously dumb system in it to eject plastic shells like it's reloading. I obviously don't need these features. The machine gun came with a "working strap" which I thought might be cool, but it is hilariously undersized even for a kid and looks ridiculous on an adult like me.

Obviously I wouldn't have bought these if they didn't seem like they'd be at least semi-appropriate in size, though, so I got what I needed. I'd be worried about the paintjobs looking realistic or something if I weren't going to bathe the pictures entirely in red afterwards, so that's not even a concern.
Did you check out Walmart? They have airsoft and bb guns pretty cheap that might have saved you paint money by being black. I have a swank full-sized shotgun that is just a BB gun in disguise (single BB, how crazy would it be if it had a shotgun blast of BBs?).

First one of those "keep calm and carry on" things that sound good.

As some of you may know from FB, I lost my job today. Great.
Shit, that sucks, sorry to hear it. I guess you can say you hauled your ass outta their bullcrap, man!

The nearest Walmart is 20 minutes away and our car can't travel outside of town right now, because the head gasket is blown. (Life is shitting on me hardcore right now.)

That said, a little fixing and a little Photoshop made the toy guns look good:

Another pair of Astromechs from Disneyland, my 5th pair. An orange R7 droid and a red & silver mish-moshed parts R2.

Yeah, no kidding, sorry to hear about the car troubles too. You guys have a shitty public transportation system? When I wasn't driving, I did a lot of bus action in the LA area, but when I lived in Arizona it was very difficult because they had few bus routes and stops, and they ran only until 6pm.

Good job, they look a touch small but otherwise adequate.

I report hauls too slow.

Birthday Haul was Inglourious Basterds on Blu-ray, an iTrip, a new PC gamepad, and a tie. Neat!

Then a gift I got myself came in the mail: Spider-Man Movie J. Jonah Jameson. Besides the value of being I think the only action figure of J. K. Simmons in existence, this thing has a 'desk pounding action' where he slams his fist and points his finger repeatedly to demand pictures, pictures of Spider-Man! He also comes with some amazing accessories: A full size desk with various cups and folders and a phone on it that rattle around when he slams it, and a surprisingly detailed swivel chair for him to sit in (it has actual padding in the seat! What the hell?). This is one of those 'amusement value' toys I've wanted for some time, so go me.

I also picked up Commander Class Shockwave for one reason or another. I dunno, I was just compelled to buy him. I guess I could use a Shockwave that'll be the right size to use with Metroplex, and the colors on this thing are really nice. Whereas Voyager Shockwave is mostly dull purple, this one's got more black and silver all over him, with metallic purple accents painted over certain parts, and it all just *pops*. Transformation is, amusingly, almost identical to the Voyager version, but I think I like the vehicle mode on this one better, it feels more cohesive and solid than the Voyager, I dunno. Just a nice little toy, I'm glad I got him, whatever the reason was.

And a package from Amazon just arrived: The second volume of Cannon God EXaXXion, and GunBuster 2 on DVD! Why I didn't own Die Buster before now is something I have no excuse or explanation for, but it's here now, so all is well. It was cool, I saw on Tuesday that GunBuster 2 was getting a new DVD release THAT DAY, so I went 'Okay' and just went on Amazon and bought it there. Awesome.

Go-Busters MiniPla: CB-01, GT-02, and RH-03 sets – Talking about Sentai MiniPla over in that PR toys thread made me realize that I needed to get my hands on some of the Go-Busters kits, that being one of my favorite series in recent memory. So I scored a set of the three main mecha off eBay for a pretty good price, and they arrived. And then I immediately took them over to my brother’s to commission him to paint the things, since he’s got an upstart miniature painting business going, and he’s really good at it besides (I sure as hell don’t trust myself to paint these things to look good). Can’t wait to see how he gets them to turn out. I’ve got the two later mecha, BC-04 and SJ-05 on their way too, but those are coming from overseas, so it’ll be a bit.
