regrets thread,Not buying a TF toy U liked for retail prices.

Years later you see pics on-line & see it listed on the secondary market for wallet breaking insanely high prices. Now you want to buy the toy but you'd prefer to pay the Retail prices it originally cost in stores/sites & not the insane scalper prices years later.

My list is short:
1- Takara Japanse reissue 10th or 15th anniversary BEAST WARS TM-11 TIGATRON JAPAN VER.
2- Botcon Alpha Trion,I could have joined the TFCC club & bought the Botcon over stock left overs on the TFCC site.

I don't really have regrets about not buying stuff, most of my regrets are getting myself into financial situations that require the selling of my entire collections.

Ah, I remember seeing the original Scorponok on a toy store shelf at McAlister Square mall, years ago. This was 89 or 90 and I had quit buying Transformers (the first time around anyway!) and passed on it. I still wish I'd bought it.

The toy I regret not getting them most isn't actually a TF toy but it is still a robot that transforms somewhat... The original Dragonzord from MMPR. I'm still surprised they didn't re-release it for the recent retro line, but I guess with the retooling they did to the Megazord in that line, they'd need to change the Dragonzord to be compatible with that version.

No real big regrets I can think of offhand. Pretty much any time I've missed something, I've been able to find it eventually, either online or at one of the vintage toy stores around here. Or a repaint shows up, or a better version of the thing I wanted in the first place happens. I guess I kind of regret not buying just a damn stack of the Classics Mag us and Skywarp set and cashing in when each figure got to be in high demand, just because I really could've used extra cash around then.

The only thing that really comes to mind is that Universe Overbite and Repugnus set from way back. I meant to pick that up, and decided to play clearance chicken and see if I could get it for five bucks. Turns out that no, no I couldn't.

The Megazord wasn't retooled; it was an entirely new mould, and it's significantly smaller than the original. AND it has no articulation improvements beyond 'swivel knees!' Not even bending, just above-knee swivels! Bogus shit.

Anyway, I always wanted to pick up the Tankorr/Obsidian two-pack, and I wish I'd bought Henkei Smokescreen when he wasn't $60. I also regretted passing up RID Scourge in favour of, uh, G1 Hot Rod reissue, but I got one now so I don't mind too much.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

And that's what I meant by retooled. It is still essentially the same thing, only slightly smaller and different knees. The point being, if they were to rerelease the Dragonzord it would be made to be compatible with that version of the Megazord.

"Retooled" implies that there's some amount of the original toy's tooling used, which in the case of the Megazord, there is not.

Oh god, you and me both. There was a pile of those things in my area when they came out, and if I'd just known what they'd be worth in a year or two...

One recent one like this that comes to mind for me: last year at Fanime, there was a dealer that had the reissue God Ginrai for a hundred bucks. I passed on it, even though I had the cash. I still don't know why, Ginrais on eBay generally go for more than that, plus shipping! That was the perfect opportunity for me to finally get that toy!

For me, I think it was the time I found the swapped out G2 Starscream/X-Brawn with G1 Ravage and the BM Jetstorm in the Universe 2.0 packages. I could have made some money off of those. Other than that, I don't really regret not buying anything. Either because I actually did buy it at the time or because I can still get it now albeit at higher prices.
