Dom is ok, not near Boston bombings and fires
He just texted me that he's ok, not in Boston right now.
For those who don't know, 2 bombs were set off at the finish line of the Boston Marathon about an hour ago, at least 4 people have been seriously injured and many more are likely. Other explosive devices have been discovered as well, the police have contained and detonated a 3rd one.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

Glad to hear Dom's okay.
There have been all these stories in the last few years about would-be bombers being caught before they could carry out the bombing, or the FBI finding them out and giving them fake explosive devices. Not that we know who did this yet, but it was only a matter of time before someone somewhere would succeed. It's terrible.

They're currently saying 23 injured, 2 dead.
Considering how much police presence was at this area, supposedly a "secured area" they called it, for them not to have stopped IED-carrying backpack bombs seems like pretty shoddy work. It's so easy for attackers to pull something like this, up until now either our police have been diligent or lucky, but not now.

I've never understood these sorts of attacks. Even from a Devil's Advocate's perspective.
Here's hoping no one was actually killed. And that whoever's responsible is confronted with reality.

Several people are confirmed dead, and there have been injured. Just the first few images I've seen from various news sites show blood all over the street, people with missing limbs and people covered with blood. It's very bad.

Federal law enforcement are now reporting 12 dead, 50 injured. They may have found more bombs in trash cans along the route. The 2 bombs that went off were a couple hours after the first marathoners crossed the finish line. Police say they believe they have surveillance photos of the suspect setting the bombs.
Awful stuff. I hope nobody reports this fool's message, at least not until his trial. Society shouldn't allow cowardly murderers to also spread their messages through terrorist acts.
As for the images, I would suggest avoiding them if you can, they're shockingly graphic, people's limbs torn apart was the first thing I saw as they were being taken in wheelchairs to safer locations.
BTW, I need to adjust what I said earlier about the police. The organization did a poor job of safety in this matter, they have video of someone with multiple backpacks in the area ahead of time, they didn't do a good sweep, this was bad work. BUT the officers on the scene are amazing, there is video of them rushing towards explosions to help the victims seconds after the one-two blasts, as usual it's the boots on the ground who make right what others do wrong.

Take JT's advice, they're very graphic. Not images you want stuck in your mind.JediTricks wrote:As for the images, I would suggest avoiding them if you can, they're shockingly graphic, people's limbs torn apart was the first thing I saw as they were being taken in wheelchairs to safer locations.

Re: Dom is ok, not near Boston bombings and fires
Dom reported this to me earlier, but the Boston police commissioner just confirmed, a third explosion took place at the JFK library. Also a bomb on Boyle street was found and destroyed in a controlled explosion.
It's possible the 12 dead report could be incorrect, 2 dead and 64 injured is what the NY Times is reporting.

I work in a call center with limited access to news during the day so this is the first I'm hearing of this (which does clarify the context of the text I got from Dom and glad to know that he's ok).
This is terrible news, I can only hope the casualties are minimal and that the perpetrators get caught.

I think it really speaks to the comraderie of this board that the first thing most of us did upon hearing this news was make sure Dom was okay.
Anyway, I am glad to hear he's fine. I'm kinda anxious to know what the motivation of this was, guess we'll find out in the coming reports. It's tense.
