Now that Disney owns the SW liscense, will disney be allowed to dictate who make the newer SW toys? Will Hasbro still be called upon to make the newer SW toys? Theirs some serious money to be made off the SW Episode 7,8 & 9 movie toys.
Since disney is not in the Action fiure business,Will disney enter the Action figure business for SW now,Put the disney logo on all future SW Action figures toys to get the most money?
Whats the current relationship between Hasbro & Disney? are they on friendly terms? Rivals? fierce competitors?
Will this put the Disney company in a more unique position to get rid of Hasbro as the main SW Action figure toy liscense. So a bidding war between other toys companies can happen to acquire the SW toy liscense. So disney makes more money off the newer toy company for the rights to make newer SW action figures toys?
Honestly if Hasbro doesn't make the SW Episosde 7,8 & 9 movie toys this will be a major loss in profits/money for Hasbro. Seeing one of Hasbro's competitors like Bandai,Mattel,Jakes Pacifics or make the newer SW episosde 7,8 & 9 movie toys will be a major upset & profits loss for hasbro.
From the way I see it,once the SW Episode 7,8 & 9 movie years toys start, any other SW toys like the newer retro's ones getting released those years will sell decent,so hasbro will lose tons of profits/sales if another toy company gets the rights to sell these SW toys after sw episodes 7,8 & 9 hit stores.
Does anyone know where Hasbro stands with this disney merger. is disney still calling on hasbro to release newer SW Toys once the the SW episode 7,8 & 9 movie years hit stores world wide?

Hasbro has 7 more years on the existing SW license. Disney has a good working relationship with Hasbro through intercompany endeavors such as manufacturing Disney-brand park merchandise both with and without Hasbro label, so it's unlikely that they will not renew the license in 2020, a timeframe which is expected to be midway through the sequel trilogy. Disney does not have their own manufacturing arm, all their merchandise is either done via licensed manufacturing or through well-known companies off-badge, they have not shown interest in the past in doing their own merchandising. Hasbro meanwhile essentially owns the licensed action figure market, outclassing nearest rival Mattel by a considerable amount. Thus, the odds are very good that Disney will continue with the existing relationship into a new license.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

I would certainly hope so. I've actually been pretty impressed with the Star Wars toys they've released in the last several years. Things like Vintage Collection Darth Vader in 3 3/4" scale with the full 3 part screen accurate helmet with cracked out articulation, the updated Imperial AT-AT that's bigger, more features and more proportionally accurate. I would have loved to have the Millenium Falcon as well, but that just was never in the budget. Looks like they did a lot with it, though. And even with the role play lightsabers getting the FX treatment, I have the Darth Maul one and it's pretty impressive.

I would have agreed with you until this year when the brand went into a tailspin after a hard stall, and is going almost 3 quarters without new product. Now I'm hoping they can pull it out, but the returning Fall product is lackluster and the scale change is challenging.Shockwave wrote:I would certainly hope so. That Big Millennium Falcon is the best, it's the centerpiece in my living room (I bought it a table from Ikea that looks great, but I don't have room right now in the bedroom where I intended it to go). The big AT-AT is great too. That stuff seems to be on the back burner for the future though. And even the brand management knows that Hasbro's big-retail policies have killed the real FX Lightsaber line, although it's great that they got the role play to do it too.

I think the main problem with the Hasbro Star wars toys is that it only sells decent when their is a newer movie in theathres. non-theathre movie years the SW toys sell at a leaps & bounds slower pace.JediTricks wrote:I would have agreed with you until this year when the brand went into a tailspin after a hard stall, and is going almost 3 quarters without new product. I've also noticed that Original Trilogy stuff sells way faster than new trilogy/clone wars.

Movies drive sales up, but even without movies Star Wars was the number 1 licensed boys toy brand several years in a row. And then it shit the bed.Tigermegatron wrote:I think the main problem with the Hasbro Star wars toys is that it only sells decent when their is a newer movie in theathres. non-theathre movie years the SW toys sell at a leaps & bounds slower pace.
Clone Wars and Prequel product sold better with the generation that grew up with that entertainment coming out, but about 3 years ago they seemed to get their fill of those characters and walked away, leaving OT product to stand taller because it has greater lasting appeal across more generations.Shockwave wrote:I've also noticed that Original Trilogy stuff sells way faster than new trilogy/clone wars.
