Re: GI Joe General
I'm just hoping Rip Cord/Marlan Wayans is not in the 2ND live action G.I Joe movie. Marlan wayans literally ruined the first live action G.I Joe movie,With all his over the top jokes, over the top hyper active in your face behavior, over the top yelling, over the top comedy antics.
I'm hoping Rip Cord gets killed early on or has such as small part in the 2nd movie,He barely gets a few minutes/words of spoken Dialoge. I suspose it would be cool if Marlan Wayans doesn't play Rip cord in the 2nd joe movie.
I do like that Hasbro is using the original "JOE 1960's toy line persona character in the live action G.I Joe 2 movie. I think Bruce willis is the wrong actor for this role.
I think selecting 2 huge power house action actors like Bruce willis & the Rock was a WRONG choice for this 2nd G.I Joe movie. These 2 guys are over-actors,they over-yell,there both overly macho, there both overly-obnoxius,overly-crude,overly-self conceited,overly-drama. These G.I Joe live action movies should be about giving a larger cast of 12+ on each faction side equal dialogue spoken words+screen time. not be about bruce willis & the Rock stealing about 75% of all the dialogue words, action & screen time.
It would be kinda cool if Dr mind bender repairs cobra commanders face & body. to make cobra commander less hidous/ugly/monstrous for the 2nd joe movie. Maybe inject some snake DNA to fix up cobra commander broken face/body. give cobra commander that snake hissing voice. this would be epic cool if this happened but knowing Hasbro it won't happen.
I truly hope that snake eyes & storm shadow don't over dominate this 2nd movie like they did the 1st live movie. I liked the 1980's Real american hero cartoon where snake eyes & storm shadow where not core characters & the writers forgot about/wrote them both out of the cartoon series.

Re: GI Joe General
Wayans is not in Retaliation period.
Willis lends credibility to the fledgeling GI Joe film franchise. Whether you like him or not, he's a "name" and will bright people to see the movie for the simple fact that he's in it. The same with the Rock. Willis is not actually in the movie for very long.
If you're expecting less Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes: You're going to be disappointed.

Re: GI Joe General
I realized recently that "GI Joe" as a franchise has been dead to me for nearly 5 years, (going back to when DDP lost the license).
I am reading the "Cobra" series because it is good comics, not because it is "GI Joe". (I am not even subcounciously hunting for toys based on it, as I am not viscerally expecting said toys.)
The thing to keep in mind is, relative to expectations, the first Joe movie bombed. Remember, TF was healthy before Bay got ahold of it, and Bay ultimately helped the franchise (even if the movies were....lacking). "GI Joe" was moribund for the better part of two decades before "Rise of Cobra", and the movie failed to revitalize the franchise. It was a summer movie, not the beginning of a franchise that it needed to be.
IDW's run with "GI Joe" started by adhering so closely to the movie that it was sometimes difficult to tell where the line between IDW comics and the movie was. By the end of the year, IDW was divorcing from the movie, to the point where they completely re-wrote their new Cobra Commander even before killing him off and replacing him. The toys all but disappeared from shelves. (I have seen more Joe toys in Walgreens than Target over the last 3 years.)
Some of the new toys look interesting though. I might grab a few for customizing. But, really, the only think keeping me interested in "GI Joe" as a franchise is Costa's "Cobra" book.

According to spoilers I have seen on-line, most of the original team is apparently going to die *early* and off-screen. Original, Sgt Dancy Pants, (Duke), was supposed to go to the big toybox in the sky as well. But, Dancy Pants has cross-genre appeal, so he was edited back in when the movie was delayed. (The Rock and Willis are going to draw the Spike TV demographic. But, Dancy Pants might be able draw in pre-teen girls and house-wives.)I'm hoping Rip Cord gets killed early on or has such as small part in the 2nd movie,He barely gets a few minutes/words of spoken Dialoge. Re: GI Joe General
This is only a rumour. Word is, Channing Tater was only there for a single day of reshoots. Granted, that day on set could compromise an extra 20 minutes of footage or something. We may actually never know Duke's fate in the original cut. (Actors and the director have repeatedly refused to actually acknowledge Duke's "death," so that says to me that he might never have died in the original cut to begin with.)But, Dancy Pants has cross-genre appeal, so he was edited back in when the movie was delayed. (The Rock and Willis are going to draw the Spike TV demographic. But, Dancy Pants might be able draw in pre-teen girls and house-wives.)
This is also true. The new director, John Chu, seems like he has a lot better handle on the franchise and what people expect than the other guy did. (I keep wanting to call him "Scott Summers" but I'm pretty sure that's Cyclops.) He sounds like he understands what makes GI Joe cool and is able to translate that in.The thing to keep in mind is, relative to expectations, the first Joe movie bombed. In all seriousness, I'm interested in about half of the toys they showed, or something like that. The "ultimate" versions of Duke, Roadblock, Flint and Cobra Commander look great--CC is especially a good upgrade from the 2007 mould. I'm interested in a handful of the other movie guys, but then there's a bunch that just don't interest me, and that's fine too. Some of the new toys look interesting though. Why do we hate Channing Tatem, again? I legitimately don't think I've seen a single movie with that guy in it.

Re: GI Joe General
I actually don't! I make fun of his name because there's a funny way to do it (Channing Tater!) but other than that...BWprowl wrote:Obviously, he ends up going into a coma.Onslaught Six wrote:We may actually never know Duke's fate in the original cut. Here's the thing. Joe fans hate him because he's a "pretty boy," or something. He's not The Rock or Stallone or Bruce Willis or something like that. I reason that Duke has always been the smiling, happy face of the GI Joe line and isn't *supposed* to be grizzled or badass or gritty at all. Duke is a guy who's killing terrorists and is happy about it. He's America's poster boy and wants you to eat your vitamins and say your prayers and join the Goddamn Army to save it from the dirty Commies and brown people. He's Captain America circa 1942. He's Superman in the 50s. That's what Duke is.
I challenge anyone to find a more whitebread, boring-faced actor today than Channing Tater who is more appropriate to play Duke. Seriously. Of everything that was wrong about ROC, Duke was one of the best things about it. (The real problems lay in the film's plot, which twist around character motivations and effectively ruin major characters for future installments. It's a wonder Cobra Commander got out of there intact, and it's a shame JGL isn't back for Retaliation.)
Channing Tater falls into the same category as dudes like Chris Hemsworth, to me. He 'is' a pretty dude. That's what Duke (and Thor, for that matter) need to be.
...but you're right, besides GI Joe I actually haven't seen anything with him in it. (21 Jump Street looked like something I might rent if I can't find anything better. Other than that...)
I disagree! New director, almost entirely new cast, a great fucking plot, and two consistently-delivering action stars headlining in it? It'd be pretty hard to fuck this one up. But we'll see what happens come March. The weird thing is, the entire reason Joe 2 was originally supposed to come out last year was so Paramount would have a big flagship action movie for the summer, since Trek 2 got delayed to 2013...and now Joe 2 is hitting in 2013 as well! So the reality is that this is when the movie was supposed to come out in the first place.Tigermegatron wrote:That JOE2 movie is gonna be horrible. If anyone is expecting a great movie then there in for a huge surprise.
Also, I had a dream about Retaliation's "follow up line." You know, its Allspark Power or its NEST or whatever. The original plan after ROC was to do "Pursuit of Cobra," and it largely featured new versions of movie characters who were (NEST or HFTD style) "hunting" Cobra across the globe. Obviously ROC didn't do as well, and the line got retooled to excise all the movie stuff from it, so in the end you got this weird toyline that didn't really fit anywhere, but was full of awesome stuff and really hard to find (because retailers didn't want it.)
Anyway, the dream's premise was that the new toyline took place after Retaliation's film. In the Hasbro version, after the end of the film, GI Joe as an American military unit is still disbanded. Even though they overthrow Cobra Commander and expose the corrupt regime (or whatever happens), the current team leaders Joe Colton and Roadblock instead choose not to return to active service. They instead form an international mercenary and rescue team known as the GI Joe Adventure Team. Because for some reason Joe fans fucking love Adventure Team. In this incarnation, though, they're instead focused on, like I said, various mercenary and rescue efforts. Basically it's an excuse to pack figures with shitloads of cool scenario gear, like POC did, only under the excuse of being a "rescue/adventure" team. They'd still have guns, of course, but it'd also be a positive way to shuffle the GI Joe brand away from gun and military violence--at least for a year or two. The line would have a few classic characters (Joe Colton, Roadblock, possibly Duke if a new edit of the film keeps him alive) but also focus on newer characters (either entirely new, or characters from the Spytroops/VvV era) and late-80s/early 90s characters who haven't had good new toys yet.
The villains in this one wouldn't actually be straight Cobra operatives. Instead, it'd be focusing on various Cobra figurehead characters leading subfactions and splinter cells. Cobra Commander is presumed dead or is MIA, and hasn't reappeared. (This entire setup makes the whole thing very similar to NEST/HFTD, in that there wasn't really a central Decepticon leader, just lots of little offshoot splinter factions.) Firefly is leading a mercenary group known as the Black Dragons. A guy who goes by Headman is into international drug trade and leads his own group called the Headhunters. Overlord is the head of the COIL. And Dr. Mindbender is working on his own secret project known only as Serpentor...
This would give us opportunities to see all kinds of cool new troop builders and also original characters or returning obscurer favourites. (Interrogator, for example, could easily be part of the Black Dragons or the COIL.)
Obviously it was a dream, so it's not happening, but I think it'd be a cool way for the Joe line to simultaneously pay homage to its past and also look forward to the future. Thoughts?

Re: GI Joe General
06,Bruce willis was a extremely bad choice to play the role of "Joe" in the G.I Joe 2 live action movie. This is the iconic Joe were talking about here, the Pioneer of the G.I Joe francise. The guy who play "Joe" in the G.I Joe2 movie needed to be kind,non-self conceited, quiet, compassionate,a heart of pure gold,calm,wise,caring,etc... NEEDLESS TO SAY THAT BRUTE/OGOR BRUCE WILL POSSESES NONE OF THESE QUALITIES IN HIS PERSONAL LIFE NOR HIS FAKE MOVIE ROLES LIVES,IN FACT HE'S THE EXACT OPPOSSITE OF WHAT THE 1960'S "JOE" PERSONA WAS.
Bruce willis & the rock are obnoxious, loud moths, with ego's the size of the universe, coupled with there excessive yelling. There gonna have a negative impact on this JOE2 live movie not a positive one.
The ninja arc/plot is also gonna ruin this JOE2 movie. it's gonna dominate & waste precious screen time/plot/story.
This movie is called G.I Joe 2,not the bruce willis not the rock movie. I seriously doubt having the rock & Bruce willis in this JO2 Movie will get higher movie theathre ticket sales. Having the rock & bruce willis be in this joe2 movie as the 90% dominate force will have a negative reaction to theathre ticket sales, hardly anyone will go see this movie. Fans & casual movie ticket buyers want to see 40+ joes & cobras duke it out, with each guy getting equal screen time, not 2 guys like the rock & bruce wilis dominate 90% of this JOE2V movies, while the other 38 joes/cobras either get killed or get reduced to side line characters or barely a few spoken words dialogue spoken characters.
