Why would anyone want to see the "Avatar air bender" cartoon episodes being exactly story played out in a live action movie telling? At the very least offer movie viewers a different alternate universe story telling of the "Avatar air bender".
Basically this Avatar live action movie featured the first few Avatar cartoon episodes. The live avatar Aang movie ended with the white hair girl becomming the moon spirit. Then there were hints that the movie creators/writers wanted to do about 5 to 10 more Aang avatar movies until they finshed up the avatar story where aang defeated the fire lord at the end of season 3.
So basically, there looking at 7+ live action movie deal for "Aang Avatar to complete the stories from the nick Avatar cartoon series. Similar in vein to the 7+ Harry potter movies that completed the stories based off the long books series of harry potter.
No,I didn't pay to rent or buy this "Avatar last air bender" live action movie,I saw it for FREE on the nick Channel. I seriously doubt movie/dvd viewers/buyers will shell out the money to see 5 to 10 live movies.
Personally I think it was a stupid ego trip movie to do a live action movie for Avatar the last air bender. because there is no way they could do everything that the cartoons versions are able to do.

Actually the movie was the entire first season of the cartoon (20 episodes) condensed into about an hour and a half for the film.Tigermegatron wrote:Basically this Avatar live action movie featured the first few Avatar cartoon episodes. Since the first movie was the entire first season, there probably would have only been 3 movies total. One film per season. Maybe 4 if they cut one season in half, like Hollywood seems to be doing with a lot of book series adaptations anymore. Then there were hints that the movie creators/writers wanted to do about 5 to 10 more Aang avatar movies until they finshed up the avatar story where aang defeated the fire lord at the end of season 3.

As a fan of the cartoon myself, I was really excited to see it in live action. I know a lot of fans of the cartoon were. Unfortunately, M. Night Shyamalon did not do a good job in adapting it for live action. Sure, they would never have been able to fit in everything from the cartoon, but it still could have and should have been a lot better than it was.Personally I think it was a stupid ego trip movie to do a live action movie for Avatar the last air bender. because there is no way they could do everything that the cartoons versions are able to do.

The movie was still awful as it offered viewers nothing new in story. using the cartoon episodes as a bible for the live action movie was just stupid, lazy, cheap & lame-o.Sparky Prime wrote:Actually the movie was the entire first season of the cartoon (20 episodes) condensed into about an hour and a half for the film.Tigermegatron wrote:Basically this Avatar live action movie featured the first few Avatar cartoon episodes. Their is just no way the live action characters can perform all the stunts, flights, special powers & fast fighting styles that the animation from the cartoon series offers.

The same argument could really be made for any movie adaptation. The Harry Potter movies for example, they really don't add anything to the story that wasn't in the books. It doesn't make it "stupid, lazy, cheap & lame-o" at all though. It's just a different media.Tigermegatron wrote:The movie was still awful as it offered viewers nothing new in story. using the cartoon episodes as a bible for the live action movie was just stupid, lazy, cheap & lame-o.
With CGI and a big enough budget, they could do anything they did in the cartoon if they really wanted to.Their is just no way the live action characters can perform all the stunts, flights, special powers & fast fighting styles that the animation from the cartoon series offers.

Thats a wrong comparision,Because the percentage of people reading books these days is extremely low to those who watch TV/Movies. around the current ratio percentage of 5% reading books compared to 95% watching TV/Movies,with these low percentages, books are basically non-existant/invisble/don't matter. FWIW,Not everyone reads the books then watches the movies or vice versa. these days the majority only watch the TV/MOVIES & don't even bother to read the books.Sparky Prime wrote:The same argument could really be made for any movie adaptation. CGI has it's limits. when dealing with humans interaction fighting scenes those need to be real, done by those who actually have decent/high levels of fighting skills/talent. There is just no way the live action kids from the "Avatar air bender" movie can perfrom all those fighting styles & jump around in the air like there clearly able to do in a animated cartoon series on the Nick network.Sparky Prime wrote: With CGI and a big enough budget, they could do anything they did in the cartoon if they really wanted to.
MOVING THE ELEMENTS AROUND IN THE LIVE ACTION "Avatar air bender" movie looked awful & cheap compared to the cartoon series version. Because in the cartoon it's easier & looks better having the element coming out & being manuvered by the kids/adults in the Avatar cartoon series.
THE CGI Technology isn't that advanced yet, where it looks real/natural/decent to add in CGI stuff on to a live action human. like accessories, weapons, clothes,Avatar elements coming out/being manuvered by a kid/adult.

I wasn't making a comparison of how many people read vs watch tv/movies. The comparison was that the story is still essentially the same and that it's just a different media format. Movie rather than book. Live action movie rather than cartoon series.Tigermegatron wrote:Thats a wrong comparision,Because the percentage of people reading books these days is extremely low to those who watch TV/Movies. around the current ratio percentage of 5% reading books compared to 95% watching TV/Movies,with these low percentages, books are basically non-existant/invisble/don't matter. That said, the Harry Potter series is not your average book. It's gotten a lot of kids, and people in general, to read who don't normally. And I'm not sure where you got that statistic from, and while you're right that tv/film heavily outweighs books, you're over-exaggerating it greatly. Books most certainly still exist and matter.
Sure CGI still has some limits but the technology is already that advanced that they could pull off anything from the Last Airbender cartoon in a live action movie. There are plenty of movies out there as proof of that. Avengers, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, James Cameron's Avatar and the list goes on and on... You'd be surprised how much is actually CGI in films these days with what they are able to do with it. And they don't need the kids to perform those stunts themselves. Haven't you heard of motion capture? They can build a virtual version of the actor using CGI and have a stuntman pull it off in a studio if they need to. The problem is, The Last Airbender's effects were cheap and they could have done it better.CGI has it's limits. when dealing with humans interaction fighting scenes those need to be real, done by those who actually have decent/high levels of fighting skills/talent. Books definitely are relevant, as Sparky said. Without books, most of the recent movies would never have been made over the last ten years. Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, The Bourne movies, Twilight, Golden Compass, pretty much all of Tom Clancy's novels, Jurassic Park... The list goes on and on. Without books, we wouldn't have very many movies.
As for CGI, yeah a lot does get done that way but a lot of it is done with the actors themselves too and they have the technology to pull off any fight scene they want. Watch the Matrix with all of their wire harness hover fighting and then tell me they couldn't apply that to the Last Airbender. Or, the most recent Star Wars movies. Between the wire harnesses and the green screening they can do pretty much whatever they want now.
Actually, I think that last sentence is why I was so disappointed with the Transformers movies.

The problems with this film:
1) Awful casting.
2) Awful director who didn't know what he was doing. (He chose to pronounce character names wrong from how they are pronounced in the series.)
I don't even like Avatar and I had no desire to see this piece of crap. It looked bad from the start, and people who did actually like Avatar started saying how bad it was, so I didn't bother.

Re: Just saw "Aang Avatar" movie,EXACT movie made no sense
It's interesting, because even outside of how badly it mangles the source material (miscasting characters, bad pronounciation, misinterpreting how various powers work) it's just a bad movie all on its own. Honestly, Shamamalam could have gotten away with just cutting some stuff out or re-writing elements of the Season 1 plot to fit into film length, but he instead chooses to reference the occurrence of those elements anyway via overt exposition, with characters stopping what seems like every five minutes to talk, in detail, about things that have happened that we apparently need to know about. Zhiao goes on at least two or three times about how he found a secret library with a book that told him the moon spirit was a fish, when a quick shot of him going through said library and finding said book would have worked just as well, taken up less time, and have been more interesting to watch, besides. The best part is when they finally get to the Northern Water Tribe, and the time comes to develop the romance between Sokka and Yue. This arc had maybe fifteen minutes of screen-time dedicated to its build-up in the series, and it was very effective, it would've been a cinch to get through it in the film. Instead, Sokka looks at Yue, and then Katara's narration kicks in: "Sokka and Yue totally fell in love with each other!". Wow.
Combine that with horrid camera-work (I took one year of media in high school, and I understood more about framing than these people did), awful special effects, bad, bad acting, and just general unprofessional bullshit (a crew member is visible in a crowd shot in one scene! For the love of god!) and you're left with just a genuinely terrible movie. That it's a terrible move that just happens to be attempting to be an adaptation of a well-loved cartoon is just an extra kick in the nads.
