I can't say i'm surprised,As I calculated it would happen. The comic book store opened up about 5 months ago. I was actually surprised the store didn't close down sooner.
The comic book store owner was a complete tool & took lazy ass to the next level. The owner opened up the store around 1:30 pm & closed the store around 6 pm. on that free comic book day in May,the lazy ass owner opened up the store around 1:40 PM & closed the store around 4:00 PM.
IMHO,Only a tool/moron opens up a comic book store in this day & age. had the tool bothered to do his research he would have seen that opening up a comic book store is a failing business that makes next to none decent profits.
Diamond direct refuses to let comic book companies do mail in order subscription to the customers. because if the customers got comics mailed to their houses, they wouldn't bother going to comic book stores anymore. Diamond direct is a SOB as they cater to the comic books stores, don't want them to go out of business by giving comic book buyers the option of getting the comics mailed to their houses.
Sadly these individual comic book stores owners/staff are too lazy/moronic to provide customers the option of having their comics getting mailed to their houses.
I hate going to comic book stores, because the owners & staff are creppy, pedophiles, lazy, sloppy, smell like drugs/grass/booze. they think their super smart but all they really know is comics & that's it,they remind me of that movie called "Dinner for Schmucks".
I refuse to go comic book stores anymore. I prefer to buy the Trade paper backs on-line from Amazon.com.
My local Comic book store closed down this week.

Re: My local Comic book store closed down this week.
All depends on the circumstances. The store I used to go to actually did very well for themselves and managed to open a chain of 4 locations. Unfortunately at one of the locations they had a watermain break and around that time someone accidentally ran their car into the front of the store. They couldn't recover from the losses and eventually closed down all the stores. Had those accidents not happened though, I'm sure they would still be in business. Meanwhile, the store I go to now has been open for around 30 years. So it is possible to be successful with a comic book shop although it's rare that many of them hang on.Tigermegatron wrote:IMHO,Only a tool/moron opens up a comic book store in this day & age. had the tool bothered to do his research he would have seen that opening up a comic book store is a failing business that makes next to none decent profits.

The problem is that the kind of people who want to run a comic store usually don't have the business sense to keep it running for more than a few years. For example, I'd love to own a comic shop--but I don't know the first thing about running one. I barely know how to sell music to individuals.

The guy running one of two local shops that I frequent said that if it wasn't for the glut of customers every Wednesday he'd never make it. That one day a week when new comics come out is what keeps him afloat.

Even a single week without new arrivals can cripple a store.
Over the last 10 years, there have been *more* stores opening in/around Boston. Rumour has it that one of the stores might be closing, but that has more to do with the fact that the mall it is located in will be closing.
There is one store in Boston, located near BU, that has been holding on for 20+ years. His latest nights are Wednesday and Friday (7pm) and his located on a very exclusive stretch of Commonwealth Avenue. The owner is a nice enough guy, but I have no idea how he does it. I would suspect money laundering or something, but the store is not in "that part" of Boston and he does not have that sort of last name. (Joking aside, when the guy is at work, he is at work. If he does not have something on his shelves, he will at least try to get a copy if somebody wants it.)
