Ugh, missing figures

Post by JediTricks »

So, when I moved last year, I bagged up all my TF figures and brought them over here separately from the rest of my stuff. In that time, a lot of things have happened in my life and as such I haven't taken the time to unpack still - it's quite a daunting task, with 30 large boxes filling my bedroom but my place already pretty much at capacity.

Anyway, this week I decided to get out my TF: Animated and TF: War for Cybertron figures - I had been watching TFA on The Hub, and the demo for the sequel to WFC came out. I dug through all my figures, and got out all but 1 TFA figure, but only came across a single WFC figure - Optimus Prime, my least-favorite of that bunch. So I decided to sit down and really think about what was missing, and it's a bit of a strange list:

- TFA Soundwave - I don't really like this figure all that much, so I tried not to be terribly obsessive about it. However, my TFA Decepticon ranks are now thinner than my Autobot ranks, due largely to help from Scourge. I found Laserbeak / guitar right away too, and generally I had kept figures and accessories together in bags, but in that case I remember Laserbeak had been lost for some time and I came across him later while packing.
- Movie 1 Voyager Optimus Prime - it's not that I loved this figure or anything, I got it on clearance, but it's odd to see it missing. Didn't come across his accessories, which I likely packed separately, so I hope they're together.
- RTS movie-style Lugnut - this one didn't occur to me until I went through a list of recent figures and realized I had only found TFA Lugnut. Lugnut was a figure I got fairly soon before I moved.
- WFC Bumblebee - one of my favorite figures of the recent age, and I thought I packed it very early and carefully because it was on my desk rather than with my collection, but so was WFC Prime and I found him right away.
- WFC Soundwave - pretty sure he was with BB when I packed.
- WFC Megatron - ditto, but Voy Op and Lugnut certainly weren't.
- Brimstone - on the other hand, pretty sure this one was on my desk as well.
- Hubcap - ditto, but Breacher was on my desk and I found him right away.
- HFTD Battle Blade Bumblebee - just weird that he'd be missing.
- HTFD Dlx Ironhide.

Over half of those were on my desk, so I'm guessing they're boxed together, but it doesn't bode well for TFA Soundwave and the others who were definitely not on my desk at the time.

Also, while looking for some of those figures, picking up UT deluxes was almost foreign to me, Cybertron Hot Shot feels so heavy and large compared to today's deluxes that it's like a different product altogether.

This is my biggest fear--that I will somehow completely fucking lose a toy. (It's already happening. I can't find my Darth Vader toy. I only own one.)

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

I have been trying to stay calm about the matter, usually I go crazy and tear my world apart obsessing over this stuff, but with my collection still crated up, there's little I can do about it - either they're in those boxes or they accidentally got thrown away. It is worrisome though, and definitely the anti-zen. Stupid collecting!

Aside from a brief time a few years ago when one of my cats was prone to stealing Minicons, I have generally been able to assume that any given figure is "somewhere" in a box, along with most of its parts. At some point in the next year, I plan to do a "sort and purge", which should go a long way to organizing the collection.

Ha!

I came across several small caches of minicons and accessories, unfortunately one of the ziptop bags I had used gave up its zip and dumped them everywhere, now I'm just hoping they didn't break and can't even think about them falling out of the larger moving container.
