This really is sad news. I am not going to say that every last strip was good. (Some of them were terrible.) But, "Mosaic" was a good way for people to make their work available and to get noticed.
Of course, it is not the responsibility of the organizers to make sure that everybody can have their work published. (Van Reyk and the others were not paid for their work on "Mosaic", so it is not reasonable to expect them to stay with it forever.)

Re: Mosaic ends
Still regret 86 and I not finding an artist to draw up the God Fire Convoy pie ad.

Re: Mosaic ends
A strip I drew for Optimus Frimal that was submitted and never published is apparently finally on the "publish" pile. I drew this thing around 2 years ago, and somehow it fell through the cracks. I'm hardly the world's best artist, but still, I'm looking forward to seeing it finally see the light of day before Mosaic ends.
I had a little more involvement back when the project started. I drew three or four and submitted a photocomic, and even a few scripts that got picked up (but never drawn, so far as I know). It was fun, and I'm sorry to see things ending finally.

Re: Mosaic ends
I recall when the submission guidelines changed.
Initially, a writer would submit a script for approval, and then the writer could shop for artists (either from Deviant Art or from their friends).
Later, a writer and/or artist would submit a completed piece for approval. Apparently, the problem with the first submission guidelines was that reliable artist were hard to find. I was told this was an issue by somebody involved in the project, and experienced it more than once myself. (I had a few scripts get cleared, but none were drawn because I could not find an artist.)
Are there any lists of guys who did "Mosaic" and eventually went pro? My hat is off to any of them.

Re: Mosaic ends
A few people did get some professional work. I think Josh Van Reyk is a colorist for IDW now. I'm thinking there were three or four other people who had gotten some work, steady or not, with IDW. Yeah, hats off to them. Nicely done.
