I've watched the first season of Sailor Moon in the original Japanese, and a fair few eps of the US dub, and I haven't a clue to what you're referring. By "naked" do you mean "covered in sparklies"? It's the same in the Japanese and US version as far as I recall, and clearly a demonstration of balletic feminine beauty rather than sweaty fuckability. Yes, those are different.

I'm implying that *Takeuchi Naoko* doesn't write smut. Because a rudimentary glance at her work, particularly in context, makes it obvious that she doesn't. Just admit you're not that big on anime, Dom, it's ok to concede one debate per month! =3

Last Word Syndrome? =p If you wanna go back to ponies, stop talking to me about Sailor Moon!

No, I am not a huge anime fan.

A friend of mine has a copy, (that I admit to not having watched), where the transformation sequence does not use sparklies.

Pay your friend a visit, buy them a beer, watch the tape in question and let me know if your memory isn't a little fuzzy. That's too frustrating, fella; you don't pull the "my friend's got the evidence to this point I made, but I haven't actually seen it" in an internet discussion, that's way below the belt! =p

So, back to ponies! =3

So, I guess it would not help to say that he chucked most, if not all, of his old VHS, (not your PAL), then huh? :)

Joking aside, I recall him (and several others) mentioning this.

Of course, that is no more below the belt than bringing up the sexual preference of a property's creator when it is wholly irrelevant.

Yes, Ponies.

So, I figured, hell with it, I'm goin' in. Not a bad show at all, kept me entertained for the first couple episodes, anyhow. The characters are cute as hell, which is almost enough reason to watch the show in itself, the animation/artwork is just pretty, and it was actually kind of funny.

I don't think I'll be getting any of the toys, though, unless a Nightmare Moon toy shows up. Then it's on. But I like the show well enough, I'm sure I'll go back and catch more of it.

I can tell you why I like it. It's because I enjoy good writing, and this show is a prime example of it. Good writing, solid characters, it makes me laugh, and after I showed it to my g/f it's also become a show we can watch together. Visually it's got great animation and some of the best facial expressions I've seen in cartoons in years. The landscape is always bright and full of life and the attention to detail is a nice treat. When I watch this show, I get the feeling that this is something that all those involved in its creation are happy and proud to have worked on. It's just good fun and entertaining and that's really all I ask of my cartoons. :)

Yes, this. When all your characters are essentially repaints of each other, this is wicked important. They pull it off really well.

Your friend lied.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

I am in the forensics lab, so I will not be clicking that link. But, I will take your word for it.

That said, another friend of mine pointed out that there are other well written shows, (cartoons included), that do not have the unusual following that MLP does. I suppose some level of brand recognition plays a part as well.

Okay, so who votes we ask Hasbro a "My Little Pony" question to show how we care less about the TF A and A than they do? "Dear Hasbro, Why is MLP so much better than TFP?"

Dom
-not entirely joking.
