New Predaking Reissue!

The originals... ok, not exactly, but the original named "The TransFormers" anyway. Take THAT, Diaclone!

New Predaking Reissue!

Post by 138 Scourge »

...and I've gotta say, it looks really nice.

Dig it here.

The yellow plastic appears to be painted gold on this version, which is a really nice deco choice. It'll be good for Headstrong and Razorclaw, anyway. And at a reported price of $179, it's actually kind of affordable. You know. Compared to what the last reissue gets, anyway.

I'm probably not gonna go nuts trying to get this one, I'm pretty happy with the last reissue, especially for the crazy deal I got on it. But it's good to see one of the most seriously rad combiners coming out again.

Also, man...Look at this box. That looks pretty rad, too.

I wish I had the money for one of these reissues. I've got the original Predacons from when I was a kid, still in decent condition surprisingly, but I'd love to have a boxed reissue set just to keep in the box for display.

Is Razorclaw's lion head vaccum metallized? It looks shiny in the pic. I'd love to have a Predaking again, it was the best G1 combiner in my opinion.

Well, I've made no secret of Piranacon being my favorite of 'em, but I'd say Predaking was probably the most successful of the lot. He's really the only one that's big and impressive-looking enough to really stand out as a gigantic friggin' Super Robot. The other guys...like, you get Devastator or Menasor, they're really not that much bigger than Soundwave. Still cool in their way but not as imposing as Predaking. Imposing and kind of adorable, yes.

Just to start debate, I'd rank my favorites like this:

1. Piranacon
2. Predaking
3. Menasor
4. Bruticus (although more for the later retools)
5. The Micromaster guys
6. Abominus
7. All the others can suck it.

I've got half of those... Piranacon, Predaking, Menasor, Bruticus (and Ruination) and Abominus. I've also got Devastator. It's hard to put them in any favorite order... Menasor is probably my favorite, just because I like the Stunticons.

Why don't I have any Autobot gestalts? I think my youngest brother had all of them actually... or at least, Superion, Defensor and Computron.

Maybe it's just because the Autobot combiners just weren't as cool?

I mean, a case can be made for Defensor, he looked halfway decent, and was made of a couple interesting characters, anyway (Blades and First Aid seemed sort of cool back in the day), but Computron was always sort of a cipher who looked...I don't know, kind of bland, and Superion...well, Silverbolt seemed sort of cool sometimes.

I forgot about Monstructor in my list. I used to have that guy, he was pretty okay for being so tiny. I liked how he could be one robot with six shell monsters all at the same time, that was a neat feature.

Yep, that's all of them from the Autobot side.

Anywho, I'm always game for a list so here goes:

Predaking
Piranacon
Devastator
Menasor
Bruticus
Superion
Defensor
Abominus
Computron
And of course the Micromaster guys.

Shockwave
- Omega Supreme and Sky Lynx don't count.

I liked Defensor and Computron quite a bit. Superion is probably my least favorite, just because all of the aerialbots are pretty weak. All the limbs transform in exactly the same way, and very little effort is made to hide the robot parts in plane mode. Silverbolt is the same way, with huge chunks of robot sticking out. The combined mode is actually decent, but the individual figures are disappointing.

TFW2005 has a good picture, and yes the yellow has been replaced with gold. Very nice!

The point of the Aerialbots is they are failure characters. They are, perhaps, the most human of all Transformers--the most flawed, the most naive. Hound would probably get along great with them.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.
