Transformers: War For Cybertron

The originals... ok, not exactly, but the original named "The TransFormers" anyway. Take THAT, Diaclone!
Generation 1, Generation 2 - Removable fists? Check. Unlicensed vehicle modes? Check. Kickass tape deck robot with transforming cassette minions? DOUBLE CHECK!!!

Transformers: War For Cybertron

The Allspark's got the details, and screenshots.

Sooooooo....whattaya guys think? On the one hand, hey, spiffy-looking new, psuedo-War Within-style TF Game. On the other hand, it's a high-profile licensed game, meaning there's a very high chance of it sucking. I dunno, I don't even have a current-gen console, so if this turns out to be good, I may just have to break down and buy one.

Anyway, the boys over on the Allspark also hit upon another interesting point: apparently some mysterious prototypes popped up a while back, and one of them has some stuff in common with the Optimus Prime from this game. And with no cartoon in sight for next year, they're hypothesizing that this may be the crux of the TF franchise, and thus the inspiration for most of the toys, in 2010. It's...an interesting idea.

Thoughts?

I'm down. I played the PC version of the first movie game, and while it was somewhat repetitive and the flying *sucked,* it was a fun little romp. This could be similar.

In fairness, the game could also be a standard example of whatever genre it is released as. It might not be neither horrible nor great.

Given that the only tie-in context I consistently like are comics, having a game as the primary context does not bother me operationally. In terms of the toys, it will be interesting to see how, (or perhaps even if), game elements and mechanics are worked into the toys. (And, one has to consider repaint potential.)

TFormers has an image of that Prototype Optimus toy in vehicle mode.

From what I've seen of this game so far, I'm certainly interested.

I'll be honest, right now the designs are sorta turning me off, mostly on the basis of them being neither too G1 nor too Movie-inspired. They at least have regular old TF faces, and for that I'm glad. Prime's pretty cool, at least, but I don't like Megs at all.
