No one said that the TF4 designs stole anything from TFPrime... They just have a similar design style between them. Certainly TFPrime was influenced by the first 3 films, but this new look is more like TFPrime than those movies IMO. And just because the cartoon didn't have licensed vehicles doesn't mean the robot designs don't or can't have a similar design style to them.
And I don't see that Hasbro was trying to cut corners with the DOTM toyline or what that would have to do with a new design to the characters now. The designs really didn't change, other than some minor details, between the first 3 films.
