TF4 Robot Modes

Money, violence, sex, computer graphics, scatalogical humor, racism, robots designed to be rednecks but given European accents, and maybe another sequel to the saga... what's not to love? TF m1, Revenge of the Fallen, Dark of the Moon and now Age of Extinction.

No one said that the TF4 designs stole anything from TFPrime... They just have a similar design style between them. Certainly TFPrime was influenced by the first 3 films, but this new look is more like TFPrime than those movies IMO. And just because the cartoon didn't have licensed vehicles doesn't mean the robot designs don't or can't have a similar design style to them.

And I don't see that Hasbro was trying to cut corners with the DOTM toyline or what that would have to do with a new design to the characters now. The designs really didn't change, other than some minor details, between the first 3 films.
