Shipping twice a month, the new series will be written by Brian Ruckley (Godless World) and illustrated by Angel Hernandez (Star Trek: Discovery - Succession) and Ron Joseph (Micronauts: Wrath of Karza).

The war between Autobots and Decepticons will start all over again in 2019, but IDW Publishing’s ambitious Transformers comic book relaunch is, fittingly, more than meets the eye — expanding the franchise in new directions by revealing the origins of the conflict that traveled from Cybertron to Earth and beyond.

The new series, titled simply Transformers, will see writer Brian Ruckley and artists Angel Hernandez and Ron Joseph tell the story of Cybertron before the war, and of the mysterious death that ended an age of peace on the planet. Bumblebee, soon to star in his own movie, will be one of the protagonists of the new title, which will publish twice a month.
A twice monthly book might be a better option than two ongoing titles, and a completely new creative team is certainly the way to go if they're looking for an entirely new direction. I have to say, I like the idea of getting in on the conflict at the ground floor and hopefully there will be a lot of new ideas and world-building that I can get on board with.

I'm in for a few issues at least, so here's hoping for a quality series that I will continue reading.

Interesting they'll be starting the story before the war begins. I like the idea of actually seeing where it began, rather than having it told in flashbacks. I dunno about having Bumblebee be the focus character though. I mean, I get it, but I'm just a little tired of him, since he has been the focus character in most of the TF media for several years now.

I agree, I'd rather see someone else used as the "focal character". There are so many G1 characters with untapped potential still, particularly with the mostly blank slate they're starting with, that there's no need to go back and put Bumblebee front and center yet again. I wonder how many people remember that he was pretty much forgotten for a long time (though Cheetor pretty much served the same function) and now we can't get away from the guy.

But yes, it'll be good to see everything from day one, and hopefully we'll get something very different from the last iteration.

Well I'm in. I mean, I rode the last continuity through to the end so I can't imagine not being in for this one. I also saw on the last issue of Unicron that they're doing a full out Go-Bots comic. And for a moment I was excited. Then I saw that the art was by Scioli. Guess I'm out of that one.

I am interested. But, I am really hoping that this series does not rely too heavily on mystical gibber-wank. (The writer's pedigree makes me wary on this point.)

I would not expect the fortnightly schedule to last much beyond the movie-hype. (After the DVD ships, the series will probably scale back to a standard monthly schedule. There might be a companion mini-series at that point.)

I mean, I get it, but I'm just a little tired of him, since he has been the focus character in most of the TF media for several years now.
Bumblebee is one of those things that we are just going to need to accept. With the right creative team, the comics will be good regardless of the lead character.

And for a moment I was excited. Then I saw that the art was by Scioli.
Scioli's writing, art and breakdowns would be easier to accept if there was some evidence that he could actually do those things well to begin with. (Demonstrating a lack of technical skill and talent only counts as a stylistic choice after one has proven to actually have skill and talent.)
