Transformers: Exiles

No noses? No problem! Zombiebots? Sure, why not. A confusing new canon that allows loose and contradictory material? And now a new sequel show with an entirely different art style that takes place way in the future!

Hasbro has said they settle for it being "close enough". No, it is not the best standard, but it is theres.
THE RETCON IS GOOD.
Hasbro likes it. And, at a basic level, it is good. But, if falls apart in the execution.
THE MULTIVERSE IS EVIL.
Hasbro never said that. In fact, they have consistently come down in favour of a multiverse.
HABSOR HAS SPOKEN.
Yeah, they own it. They can make the rules.

Well make your mind up, is it a singular continuity or a multiverse? BOTH??

This is why I don't talk about this particular topic anymore.

Hasbro has more or less said "both". (The real source of confusion here is that Hasbro has people in charge of developing content and answering questions who do not know what key terms like "continuity" and "context" actually mean.)

The agreed term for Hasbro's continuity is "Aligned", which is ironic given the many inconsistencies that O6 alluded to.

In theory, "Aligned" includes the current video games, "Transformers:Prime",the novels, the "Power Core Combiners" packaging and at least some of the "Generations".

And how is that pronounced? "Aligned" with a long "A"? "AWL-ined"?

"Aligned". Sorry, I got sloppy with the spelling.

Damn. I actually thought they were going for a horrific bit of wordplay.

Not since "Revenge of the Fallen" has an opportunity for better wordplay been missed so!

For what it's worth I don't get that it's really worked all that well. At least the reaction from the fanbase seems to be "bullshit". I'm sure Dom could elaborate on this better than I could since he's more interactive with the TF fanbase than I do.

Ideally I can see what Hasbro is going for though: To establish certain story elements to universal to every iteration of the property as a building block. Good idea in theory but the execution after several years of already contradictory continuities is just silly. And unnecessary.

Hasbo basically wants editorial control, which they would have anyway. But, they cannot quite pull it off.

While Hasbro has always been good about cultivating intellectual property, they usually farm out managing it. They still have a stiff learning curve.
