In terms of animation, Transformers Prime is right up there with Clone Wars. Clone Wars is a unique show in that it has an enormous budget and also that these are only the 1st two episodes of TFP. The animation will only continue to get better from here on out. Remember how Beast Wars looked in its final season compared to its first? Night and day. So who knows, they may catch up to Clone Wars quality sooner than later. I will admit that all the bots and cons are super shiny. Like, blindingly shiny in the way we haven't seen since the transmetal days of BW. :p

I must say that I was really checking out the desert backdrop. They really outdid themselves there. The scenery and backgrounds were absolutely beautiful in every shot. Can't wait to see where they'll go next. Heck, I'd be happy just seeing the desert for a few more eps, they did that good a job on it.

Currently Arcee is my favorite character on the show. The best looking Arcee ever, and the best looking bot on the show. Great personality too. I really like her. Prime is Prime. No surprises there, but it is great to hear Cullen reprising his role for TV. Ratchet is awesome. Jeffrey Combs' voice really suits him. Bumblebee is the same BB from the movies more or less. Since they decided to go the mute route for the show as well, I'm glad they decided to have him speak in binary instead of radio soundbytes. Soundbyte speak would get really old in a hurry, I'm sure. It works for the movies, because they're only a couple hours long, but for an entire series? Not so sure. Bulkhead is cool. Seems to have retained all the muscle and lost the clumsiness. He'll be fun to watch. Cliffjumper. . . what's there to say, really? He sounded cool for the 5 minutes that we got to know him. Killed, reanimated, sliced in half, caught at the center of a huge energon explosion. Yeah, I don't think a 'bot can be more dead than that. He and Arcee seemed like an item, and I would've liked to have seen more of that. Guess that's what fanfic is for.
For the cons, the Eradicons are decent but devoid of personality. I'm glad that they know how to fight. It's a nice change of pace that even the drones pose a serious threat to the Autobots unlike the Vehicons of BM that a single Maximal could mow down by the hundreds. So that's nice. I think the spoiler on their vehicle modes looks stupid though. When I first saw the concept art, it reminded me of a sleek, classy spy car from Spy Hunter or a James Bond film. Well, not with those spoilers anymore. Oh well. Minor gripe.
Soundwave is. . . too early to tell. I couldn't even really get a good look at him in the shadows. No face. . . hmm... we'll see.
Starscream is cool so far. I like his voice and somehow his skinny ass frail body works in motion whereas it doesn't in still pictures. I like that he actually warns Megatron (emphatically) not to use Unicron's blood on himself. Not often that we get a Starscream that isn't all about screwing over his leader. This is a trend that I hope continues. And if Starscream does plot to take leadership, hopefully it'll be because Megatron has gone insane from Unicron's blood and SS is forced to take leadership for the good of the Decepticons.
Megatron himself is pretty good so far. Love hearing Welker back doing the voice, even though it's much different from his G1 voice. I was really surprised when he sliced Cliffjumper in half. When they reanimated CJ, I thought for sure that he would be rescued or escape or something. Nope. Megatron slices him right in half. Nice and evil. I likes. :D The teeth seemed out of place at first, but they're slowly growing on me. I like that his face kind of looks like a skull with those black lines around his mouth and everything.

The kids are largely forgettable. Jack is the only one that needs to be there. Miko's presence was really forced. She was just so in love with Arcee's vehicle mode that she had to chase it down? Okay... And Raf.. . well, whatever. Raf is Raf. And he can understand BB's binary speak. Raf... Rad... Raf... Rad. Oh god. And he can show up Ratchet when it comes to computers? Ohhh god. Jack is okay though. I like him well enough. The other two I can see maybe improving from here on out. I mean, it's just the first 2 episodes. Sometimes you just have to ram a few characters in and get their sloppy introductions out of the way before you can get to the good stuff. No worse than the introductions of the season 2 G1 bots telling Spike, "Hey, my name's Beachcomber, and heyyyy, it's all good. Like, I'm totally non-violent and love the birds. Peace, man. Heyyyy."

So there's my verdict. So far I'm liking it. First episodes always tend to be a little shakey, and this one is no exception. But the good far outweighs the bad, IMO.

So, where does a guy who doesn't have cable go to watch the episodes? I'm trawling YouTube and if I'm quick enough I can probably watch them before Hasbro pulls them down. Any other options?

Yeah, I've seen episode 1 and half of episode 2. Looks pretty good so far. Poor Cliffjumper though... that's pretty grim stuff.

I get the feeling that Cliffjumper being the star of the prequel comic, having a celebrity voice actor, and getting the level of publicity he did in the show's promos was all set up
Spoiler
just so that his death would hit as hard as possible. It worked, I did *not* see it coming. But yeah, he's pretty dead now.
Otherwise, I like the show. It feels like a mash-up of Animated and Beast Wars, but it has yet to really show its true potential. Of course, the "premier" isn't even technically over yet (this was a preview, the actual five part premier hits next week), so we'll see what it's all about by the end. I'm interested, at least, but it's still got a long way to go if it wants to show up
Spoiler
My Little Pony
as the best show on the Hub.

I *really* like Megatron's design in this. The teeth just do it for me.

Man, that sucks about Cliffy. I haven't seen it yet but that makes me really sad; I was hoping that for once Cliffjumper might actually be important. Nope.jpg

Yeah, I was hoping "Cliff" would have a more promenant role as well. Bummer. Anyway, so far I'm actually pretty impressed. Especially since this is the first iteration of TF that has a human character that doesn't irritate me. Jack is actually a pretty decent character. The other two can get stepped on for all I care. Otherwise, this show rocks so far. It's like an amalgamation of Bayverse, Animated, with a little BW thrown in. I really hope they come out with this on DVD.

Oh, so this is where the TF:Prime discussion is.

I have to say, I really enjoyed the first 2 episodes. Great hearing Cullen and Welker as Prime and Megatron in a series again. Welker I think is making Megatron sound even more sinister which is a very nice touch with the whole 'raising a zombie army with dark energon' plot. And I love Jeffrey Combs as Ratchet. Really don't care for Bumblebee talking in binary. Don't understand why Bumblebee has to be like the movie with out talking. Although we didn't see much of Soundwave, I get the sense he's somewhat like that as well, as he only replayed a message from Arcee and a signal they got from Megatron.

The CGI in this show looks great, especially after the CGI we got from the Energon and Cybertron series. Probably the best animation we've had since Beast Wars/Machines.

Really surprised Cliffjumper got killed off so quickly. I wasn't expecting them to do that. I have a feeling he still could come back, and not at a zombie, but hard to say after being cut in half and then the entire energon mine exploding with him in it...

The kids seem really unnecessary to me so far but I like that the Autobots are keeping them out of the way so far.

Overall, I'd say they're off to a good start. Looking forward to where they take it.

Most TF series have worthless human characters. (Useful human characters are not unheard of. But, they are much more rare.)

There was a real push with Cliffjumper early on. Hopefully, his death will stick though.
