I've just been informed that we at TFViews are to be a part of the Transformers Hall of Fame program. We'll be submitting a top 5 list that we'd like to see included in Hasbro's upcoming Transformers Hall of Fame. That list will be mixed with the other participating fan sites' lists and final judging will be made from those selections. Our deadline on this is a week from Friday.

The first 4 members of the Transformers Hall of Fame are Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron, and Starscream. Seems obvious, right? Well, now we help tell them who the fifth member should be.

For us, voting will be easy. I will do all the tallying, so all you have to do is:
Reply below with a RANKED list of your top 5 (FIVE) choices for Hall of Fame inclusion.
Number 1 must be your TOP choice, number 2 your second choice, and so on.

If you'd like to discuss your votes, we have also have a discussion thread about this poll roaring right now so come join the fun in there!

Vote now, and thanks for participating!

Here are my votes:
 1. Soundwave
 2. Mirage
 3. Wheeljack
 4. Devastator
 5. Grimlock
Here's how you make an ordered list if you are too lazy (like me) to just write the numbers in the front of your entries (type your entries after the asterisk brackets):

Code: Select all

I wanted to vote for Hot Rod because I like the figure, but then I remembered how much I hate the character.

I know my list is kinda on the nose G1 main originals, and perhaps a bit Autobot-centric, but when I think "hall of fame", I don't think of Retrax, even if he does want to bribe me with a hug. ;)

Guys, lets not give in to self-indulgence on this. Try to choose characters that actually do have staying power and are recognizable. (Nobody givea a rat's arse about Straxus.)

-Grimlock: Iconic and consistent, if much over-used.

-Armada Hot Shot: There is a generation of fans who will no doubt remember Hot Shot as fondly as any old timer fan remembers say....Prowl.

-Prowl: One of the most iconic Autobot cars, in the US, UK and Japan.

-Devastator: A fondly, if often inaccurately, remembered combiner.

-Barricade: Like the movie or not, Barricade resonated with audiences. "To Punish and Enslave."

Dom
-formally voting against Bumblebee.

Considering how long Bumblebee was unused, I'm not all that sure he belongs on Hasbro's list. But I guess that's not my call.

In coming up with my list, I've tried to draw upon who were the most prominent characters in the old days of G1, and who the more casual long-term fan or non-fan might remember.

1. Hot Rod
2. Grimlock
3. Soundwave
4. Jazz
5. Shockwave

I'm with Dom in think that it'd be really nice to get some post-G1/1987 characters in here, since it seems a lot people forget that everything after that counts as 'Transformers' too. So here's my list:
 1. Optimus Primal- Quite possibly the greatest hero in Cybertronian history, and a definitive symbol of the Beast era, which pretty much saved TF during the 90's.
 2. Grimlock- I'm not his biggest fan, but he does kinda belong on this list, since he became such a breakout hit.
 3. Movie Barricade- Good choice Dom. I'll support this one.
 4. Kup- He wasn't all that back in the day, but Nick Roche has turned him into one of my favorites.
 5. Galvatron- In my eyes, the definitive post-movie guy: New, crazy, inconsistent, and he hasn't been used well since the 80's!
Honorable Mention: Ratbat- A good representative for the Marvel TF comics, and their unusual, ever-changing status quo.

1. Soundwave. Anachronistic? Sure. But I think G1 Prime's TFWiki caption sums it up best: "I'm the guy everyone remembers. No, not the tape guy, the other one." Plus, something tells me we'll get new toys of everyone who gets nominated, and part of me wants a new Soundwave, so.
2. Shockwave. Unquestionably so! Shockwave is 'unique,' and he shows that TFs don't have to be the same as all the other ones. It'd be one thing if he only had one eye, or a gunhand, but this dude has both!
3. Jetfire--all incarnations. This is a guy who has played a pretty significant role in every continuity he's shown up in. In G1, he was the Autobots' only space travel source before Omega Supreme showed up. In Armada, he combined with Optimus Prime--I don't think anyone who owned Prime didn't own Jetfire, eventually. And in the Movie, he was one of the oldest TFs in the universe, and eventually combined with Prime to fight the Fallen. Like Armada, I don't think anyone who owned ROTF Prime didn't get Jetfire too.
4. Grimlock. He can be overexposed, but when he's done right, he's done 'right.' He's also another example of TFs who are unique in some way--he's a dinosaur, and he talks funny.
5. Movie Barricade. He's a spiffy character and a lot of people have latched onto him. I'd put Onslaught here, but to be honest, he's not that 'important.'

My first choice is probably going to be a bit obvious but....

1. Shockwave
2. Grimlock
3. Blackarachnia
4. Jetfire
5. Soundwave (there's been a toy named Soundwave in almost every version of TF)

Okay, screw it.

1. Grimlock

2. Soundwave

3. Prowl

4. Devastator

5. Unicron

Someone's feeling Geewunny. But okay, I can back these choices up.
Grimlock, most of you guys have on your list, too, so you know where I'm comin' from.

Soundwave, because he was the guy that everyone wanted back in the day. He was an incredibly cool figure with an extra level of fun thanks to his cassette-bots. He's the first transformer to have accessories that all went somewhere specific in both modes (I mean, sure you could throw Prime's fists in the trailer, but you know what I mean). Outdated, sure, but damn well known.

Prowl, because the look of that toy is easily one of the more iconic designs of the original series, and you can still see elements of this design in a lot of modern toys, even outside of modern homages.

Devastator because combining transformers not only up the stakes of these fights when you bring out these super warriors, but they showcase the unique qualities of having robots as your main characters...they can do shit like this. There's combiners I like a hell of a lot more than Devastator (he's about fourth on my own list) but he's the first and probably the best known, so I vote him. Plus, I'll tell you straight: ten year old me seeing the '86 movie back in the day? I flipped right the fuck out when Devastator combined and said "Prepare to face oblivion" (I may have this quote wrong, sue me)

Speaking of the movie, Unicron was a Transformer that turned into a damn planet that ate planets and was voiced by Orson Welles. Sure, he's overdone now, but back in the day? The sheer scale of that kind of crazy idea shows a huge leap in creativity for this franchise.

So yeah, that's my votes, liking 'em and sticking with 'em. I love a lot of the post-movie stuff, and I'm no strict Geewunner, you guys know this. But that's what I think of when I think hall of fame material.

1. Soundwave. Extremely memorable, very cool, unique alt.
2. Grimlock. Dinosaur. Sometimes in charge of things.
3. Unicron. The biggest robot. A movie was built upon him. Orson Welles
4. Arcee. Lady-bot par excellence. Leia buns. Workplace equality
5. Wreck-Gar. We talk TV. You talk TV? I don't really have a fifth vote.
