Robot Heroes - general review and comments

Ancillary, non-main-line stuff. Star Wars TF, Speed Stars, Titanium Series, Robot Heroes, that sort of thing. They're kinda neat, but we all know they're not really that important. Admit it, you know it's true.

Robot Heroes - general review and comments

Post by andersonh1 »

Time for the all-purpose Robot Heroes thread. I love these little guys, as long as they're G1 characters. For some reason the other lines (movie and Beast Wars) aren't as appealing to me.

A packaging note - there are molded Autobot and Decepticon symbols on top of the bubble, but the 'Con symbol is missing the eyes. Looks strange.

Sunstreaker - as always with RH, posability is limited to shoulders and head. Sunstreaker is crouched with knees bent and head leaning forward, with both arms bent at the elbow like he's ready to box. It's a better crouch than RH Soundwave or Grimlock, but I'm not a fan of "the crouch" poses in general. Details are good though, and the facial expression is somewhat bemused. Oddly, the Autobot symbol on his chest is the movie version.

Galvatron - Some characters just should not be given the cute treatment, and Galvatron is probably at the top of the list. But the figure looks good, and is standing in an upright pose, with one arm bent and the other, with the orange cannon, thrust straight out to the side. His 'Con symbol is also the movie version. Where Sunstreaker is based on the toy, Galvatron is based on the animation model.

overall - has the usual pose limitations of Robot Heroes, but otherwise a good set, and the characters aren't quite as 'cutified' as some other RHs.

Autobot Hound - four points of articulation on this little guy... the usual shoulders and neck, but the waist turns as well. He's more limber than the actual toy! Hound has a delighted expression on his face, and is a decent cut-down version of the original figure. The Autobot insignia is the movie version and sits on the right bumper, while the proper yellow star is on the left bumper. His stance makes him look like he's creeping up on someone, but thanks to the waist being able to turn, he can be fixed in a nice variety of poses, at least for a Robot Hero.

Blitzwing - the original toy was one of my favorites, so I'm delighted to see the figure turn up in the RH line. He's generally the correct colors though he's missing the details that the decals would have provided. Blitzwing is carrying his sword, but not his rifle, and is posed slightly bent forward, but not quite crouching, with one arm reaching out to grab someone. He's got a "I'm about to get ya!" pose and expression. Mine keeps falling over backwards, which makes me think mine is slightly warped. Given the soft plastic, I can probably compensate. Silver (ugh, all wrong for G1) 'Con movie symbol on the back wing, beside the tank turret.

Overall, another good set, with what can only be termed as secondary characters, which I'm always glad to see make the cut for a new toy. Worth the purchase.

I'm just thrilled to no end to see more of these guys. It's amazing how addictive the lil' dudes are...I've gotten kinda hooked collecting these and "Fantastic Four" related Superhero Squad stuff.

Man, I cannot wait for Snarl vs. Sharkticon, or Arcee vs. Rumble.

And, of course, should Hasbro want to make a Robot Heroes figure of that guy over there in my avatar, I wouldn't be against it.

So, Shane...how much are you looking forward to the Beast Machines RHs? Robot Heroes Vehicons have gotta be some good stuff. I can't wait to see if they can get a grin onto Thrust's face...

I have to say, despite not really wanting Beast Wars RH, I'll be all over Beast Machines figures.

They HAVE to make Megabolt.

Just for reference, so I don't have to dig through pages of news, here are the upcoming RH sets.

http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transform ... puter.html

Robot Heroes:

SNARL VS SHARKT
CHEETOR VS TANK
PERCEPTOR VS HA
TIGATRON VS INF
RICOCHET VS PRE
SUPER OP VS RID
PROWL VS LASERB
OPTMS VS JETSTR
VCTRY SABER VS

And from the ATT post:
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.toys ... ee2a?hl=en#
Chad's query about future Robot Heroes releases got me curious, so I
poked around in the Wal-Mart computer today and I found some listings
for upcoming toys that I didn't know about. Apologies if this is old
news, but I haven't seen any mention of them here yet.

In addition to the Robot Heroes we already know about (Kickback,
Ironhide, Blaster, Thrust, etc.) there were several pairs listed in
the computer I wasn't aware of. Some of the names were truncated so
their identities are not known to me:

SNARL VS SHARKT
CHEETOR VS TANK
PERCEPTOR VS HA
TIGATRON VS INF
RICOCHET VS PRE
SUPER OP VS RID
PROWL VS LASERB
OPTMS VS JETSTR
VCTRY SABER VS

Let's break this down. Pitting Snarl against a Sharkticon is strange
and comical since Snarl was the only Dinobot who *didn't* encounter
the Sharkticons at any point, but I sure hope these figures match my
mental picture, because in my head they're super-cute. Thylacine 2000
recently confirmed that Cheetor vs. Tankor was a Beast Machines set
announced at BotCon.

Perceptor and his mystery opponent have me baffled; there are only a
handful of characters whose names start with "Ha-" and none of them
seem appropriate. (I'm holding out for the possibility that it's one
of the generic background Decepticon jets, and that they've
appropriated one of the names I assigned them, like Harbinger or
Hailstorm.) I suppose it could be a brand-new character with a name
like Hacksaw, but that wouldn't make sense in the Robot Heroes toy
line. (Han Solo? Harvey Birdman? Hamburglar? Half-Assed Homage?)

Anyway... I wonder if Tigatron vs. Inferno includes a recycled version
of Robot Heroes Cheetor (an accurate version of Tigatron would have a
new head sculpt, but who knows what they'll do). Ricochet seems like
an odd choice (redeco of Jazz?) but if that's Predaking he comes with,
I'll be delighted to no end. Super Optimus vs. RiD Megatron was also
confirmed at BotCon. Prowl vs. Laserbeak will be fun, I think.
Optimus vs. Jetstorm is apparently another Beast Machines set; why are
they wasting time with these when they could be doing figures of
characters who *didn't* get Hasbro toys, like the Diagnostic Drone?
Victory Saber is a surprising choice, but it'll make the Japanese fans
happy. Wonder who he comes with. Deszaras? (Wonder how they'll
romanize his name?)

To date, I own NO Robot Heroes. But that's gonna change with the Super Fire Convoy/Gigatron and Victory Saber/Deathy sets. Yessss. Must have chibi Gigatron! I am powerless to resist.

Oh sweet shit, a Robot Heroes BM Jetstorm? It is on.

This line is getting more nuts with every successive wave, and I'm loving it.

Ah, crap, forgot about the BM Robot Heroes. I'm passing on the BW ones, but Vehicons? Gnnn. At this rate, we'll get Robot Heroes Skyquake, and I'll know Hasbro are just taunting me.

Oh, snap. Robot Heroes Skyquake would rock.

But I'm picturing how rad RH Thrust, Obsidian, BM Rattrap, and, hell yeah, Megabolt would be.

If there's ever a RH Piranacon, or any RH Seacon, I'm going to just go ahead and die of awesome overdose. Just sayin'.

Some of the Vehicons might be guys who look good in that aesthetic as well.

Dom

For those who recall, McTankorr was pretty much chibi anyway, so I'm expecting something along those lines.

Now..BM Megs w/Diagnostic Drone. Because we're not going to get a Diagnostic Drone any other way.
