Shout when they released the full series DVD's for Energon Never released that missing episode that was located in the 30's somewhere. Shout also didn't use the superior finished animation that Takara used for the Super-link cartoon series. Hasbro was in a rush for the energon cartoon series when it aired on CN,So Hasbro used un-finsihed animation episodes for energon.
Shout didn't release the original Energon DVDs, did they? And besiding that, the "missing episode" was just outright never dubbed--an English version does not exist. Plus, to use the "finished" animation, they would have to actually recut the episodes and do all kinds of shit. Those were Hasbro (or whoever was handling the dub) decisions--those are on the master tapes (or digital or whatever they're using). RID, unlike those, DOES have unedited master tapes. (At least, we have no reason to believe that they don't exist.)
The Shout Ultimate Japanese exclusive full cartoon series like Headmasters,Masterforce & Victory are vastly inferior to the Metrodome versions. As Shout wasn't allowed to use all the special added features & additions that Metrodome had access to like those 1990's english dubs. While internet TF fans complain about the English dubs sounding awful, they were a bonus addition that Metrodome threw in for FREE,It is kinda nice to hear what the characters are saying in english instead of hearing japanese or reading sub-titles. Metrodome's did a far better digital re-mastering job & sounds effects job than shout did. Metrodome had access to the studio episodes which were of superior quality than the broadcast episodes. Should used the inferior broadcast episodes.
Many of us prefer subtitles for shows that were originally released in Japan. If Car Robots got a DVD release with subtitles, I would happily buy it over RID. Not everyone is as incapable of reading text and watching video at the same time as you are--in fact, I watch even things in English with subtitles on. (Sometimes there are amusing differences, and sometimes I have to keep my TV at a low volume at night so as to not wake up my girlfriend.)

I am NOT incapable of reading text and watching video at the same time.--->I've watched dozens of Japanese anime this way.

I'm just proud of my (at the time) 3 and 8 year olds watching Headmasters and Masterforce on DVD with me, even though both series were Japanese with subtitles. The younger one couldn't read them of course, but the older one could and she really enjoyed both series. They didn't find it boring or a turn-off to listen to the whole thing in a language none of us speak. Even now I occasionally get requests to "watch Japanese Transformers!"

Personally I'd rather have RID as it was broadcast, but this is one of those instances where if both RID and Car Robots ever became available, I'd probably buy both just for comparison. I liked RID quite a bit, and I don't view it as a replacement for Car Robots, but rather an alternate version that's equally worth viewing.

I'd love to see the three original shows that were used to make Robotech, to pick another example of a Japanese show that was imported and changed. I once bought a "Robotech: Perfect Collection" VHS tape years ago that had the first two episodes of the Invid storyline. It had the Robotech version, and then the original Japanese version, and one of the things that I liked much more about the Japanese was the complete lack of stupid quips during the battles. A lot of the fights were silent, apart from sound effects, which I guess is something the American producers just couldn't stand for whatever reason.

You'd be able to buy it, if it weren't for Harmony Gold!

Also, it's been a few months, and surprise! Nothing on their lawsuit over SDCC Jetfire.

I wonder what Harmony Gold does other than make money off of Robotech. It's not that active a property, surely that's not all they rely on to generate income.

edit: according to Wikipedia (whatever that's worth) they have their hand in a number of productions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmony_Gold_USA

While I can't fault them for protecting their trademarks, I'd enjoy seeing the original Macross, as well as the other two series that were combined into Robotech. It would be very interesting to compare and contrast, as well as to simply watch the original story and characters and judge them on their own merits.
