The Armada/energon Tidalwave toy doesn't get the praise it deserves from fans.

I think the Armada/Energon Tidalwave toy mold is one of the best TF toys Hasbro/Takara ever made. due to the toy pushing the limits of the TF toy technology.

Tidalwave basically took the 1980's Duo-con toy gimmick designs to the next level. by being a Trio-con,three vehicles that combine to form a robot mode.

To push the 1980's Duo-con gimmick to even more levels,Tidalwaves three vehicle can merge to form a combined super vehicle alt mode. what makes the combined vehicle mode so unique/special/ground breaking,is it can transform into the combined super robot mode.

Armada/Energon Tidalwave I felt got a highly detailed realistic design sculpt in all modes. The sculpt on this toy looks like it was aimed at much higher aged kids/teens/adults.

As pointed out,we don't get enough sea based vehicle modes for Transformers. I felt this tidalwave toy gave us this & did it in a gigantic ground breaking TF toy technology way.

CLEARLY the hasbro toy colors for both Armada & Energon tidalwave are pure awful/ugly/hideous. I suggest getting the more beautiful Takara Micron-Dentsu colors for this toy sculpt.

Yes,I'm aware some fans hate the Tidalwave toy due to the legs not being poseable enough. THIS IS A EASY FIX AS ALL ONE NEEDS TO DO IS SWAP OUT THE UPPER ROBOT LEGS OF TIDALWAVE WITH THE UPPER LEGS OF 2005 CYBERTRON ULTRA JETFIRE'S TOY,THE END RESULT IS BENDING BACKWARD & SIDEWAYS KNEE JOINTS & 360 DEGREE ROTATE SWIVEL JOINTS IN THE UPPER LEGS.

I do like the 1989 TF Victory breastforce/chest plate homage this tidalwave toy has in robot mode. the minicon can plug into tidalwaves minicon port on the chest & add a chest plate armor to this toy. sure most will say the minicon that tidalwaves comes with is awful but it can easily be swipped oput for a better looking jet minicon.

Lastly while i don't like the armada megatron+tidalwave super armor robot mode for megatron,it does add more play value to the toy & it's nice to have the option for others to use even if i'm not a fan of it. I kinda wish Megatron would combine with other Transformers toys like optimus often combines with other transformers toys

Cheap plug!

Tidal Wave always stuck out to me because he looked like quite an unposeable lump amongst Armada's fairly compact, colourful designs. Never really appealed.

Boatformers = good, though.

Tidalwave is decently poseable, the toy has, universal shoulders, elbow joints,360 degrees swivel joints near the forearms, fingers joints, waist joints, universal hips joints, knees that bend to the sides, feet joints.

Giving tidalwave bending backward knee joints & 360 degree rotate swivel joints in the upper legs is a easy fix. all you gotta do is swap out tidalwaves upper robot legs with 2005 cybertron ultra sized jetfires upper robot legs.

With the exception of Gomess I think you're pretty much preachin to the choir around here, most of us really liked Tidal Wave. It was one of my favorite toys to come out of Armada and if you REALLY want to appreciate the alt mode and character, play the game. His level is my absolute favorite. You start off on some islands looking for him and then when you find him, his combined alt mode IS THE LEVEL!! and then when you get to the control room he transforms and you have to fight his giant bot mode. It's truly epic and still holds up visually as well.

What was the name of the TF video game that Tidalwave is in? Was it just called "Armada" ?

It was just called Transformers but it is the one based on Armada. It came out on the PS2. I highly recommend it and you should be able to get it pretty cheap. It's one of the best Transformers games made, the gameplay with the minicon loadouts were so diverse that it really kept it's replay value.

I enjoyed that game too- a mate of mine had it at uni, and I was consistently surprised with how much the game engine allowed you to do. Using the transformation sequence's invincibility frames to dodge attacks, or transforming into vehicle mode at the last second to survive a long fall unharmed...

All it needed was a co-op mode. And.. like.. an urban stage where disguise is actually a factor..
