Generations Voyager-class Rhinox

Post by JediTricks »

I figured put this in the Beast Era forum just to keep it interesting.

This figure comes mistransformed in robot mode, the waist is out of position and the upper arms aren't fully telescoped out. Instructions are pretty bad, missing key features like locking the lower jaw tab into the inside of the rhino head to keep it from falling apart, and the hips flipping all the way around in transformation.

Robot Mode
Pros:
- very good likeness
- decent range of motion, expressive
- good use of bulk
- mirror-twin, spinning chainguns of doom
- pretty good paint
- fairly show-accurate transformation

Cons:
- loose leg joints lead to flopping issues
- some restrictions on range of motion
- a bit more kibble than I prefer
- semi-open hands aren't ideal
- some of the character's flaws are still present here

Beast Mode
Pros:
- pretty decent size
- chaingun storage is clever
- lower jaw opens
- upper jaw & head opens one click, complete with secondary panel

Cons:
- deco is simple
- legs are immobile
- panel gap in a few spots, not major but noticeable
- all-black eyes might be accurate to the animal, but not this BW character
- backs of legs all show bot parts
- limbs have a specific orientation, but don't quite meet it or lock to it

All in all, this is a really good interpretation of Rhinox, but it does still suffer some of the mistakes that newer BW figures have, so your mileage may vary to a degree, but I think overall it's a good figure and a good homage.

Sounds like a nice update of the figure. This is another character I'm fond of and would enjoy an updated version of, so I may pick this one up if I see it.

It is a very nice version of the character and great update compared to the original Rhinox figure. Really the biggest disapointment I have with it is that they didn't paint the chain guns of doom. They have some great detailing to them but it's just solid green. I've already added some silver and black to make them that much more show accurate. The scale is great is great with the old Beast Wars figures. Really like the transformation of this figure. It's a bit complex but it feels more solid than the original since that version relied on some large shellforming parts. I would certainly recommend picking up this version of Rhinox.

According to this youtube video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1lQStRkls4 The beast legs are not immobile. The front beast legs can swing forward/backward on the upper hips joints. The front lower beast legs have a 360 degree swivel rotate swivel in the knee joint. the front beast knees joints bend inward. the beast back legs on the knee joints can bend backward. the mouth open, the ears wiggle/move,beast head moves. the beast tail can move. So the beast mode has plenty of articulation. the beast mode is no where near as immobile like most of the beastwars neo maximals beast modes toys were.

As usual, talking out your ass. The front legs can swing forward at the hip 45 degrees if you don't mind an ugly gap and dislodging all the other panels at the front of the body.

The front lower legs can only rotate 15 degrees before hitting housing or panels, and doesn't look good rotated at all. They're always meant to be bent to a specific angle, and they're not really useful tilted inwards more.

The rear legs only bend to one large angle and it also exposes a big gap, and looks wrong.

I mentioned the mouth.

The ears do not wiggle, they are rubber and part of the panel with the horn and teeth, you move them and they'll tear off.

The tall not only doesn't move, it's molded as part of the ass panel.

Yeah, his beast mode really doesn't have much articulation to it. The jaw opens, the legs can move somewhat, and that's pretty much it.

Sounds a lot like the original!
