Doesn't color generally code the same for everyone except people who are colorblind? Otherwise, we would all see everything as different colors. Some would see Optimus as red blue and silver and others would see green yellow and pink. And no one would ever agree on any color ever.

Of course the people that saw him as green yellow and pink would think those colors are called red blue and silver, so who would ever know?

So Prowl and Shocky. You guys have seen my doggy pics on Facebook. What color are they?

Generally, yes, but as in the infamous case of that damnable dress, sometimes hues can fall into a sour spot that different people read differently (hence my use of a personal example with my Dad's storage bins).

He (is it a he?) appears kind of an orangeish-brown, to me.

Solid gold... But seriously, yeah, what Prowl said.

Y'know, I can't help thinking that whole thing was a hoax. The thread they had for it over in the TFW GD I saw pictures of the dress that appeared both ways. One had it white and gold the other black and blue. I'm not entirely unconvinced that the whole thing isn't just one pic that was photoshopped. Now, if people there were two people looking right at the dress in real life at the same time and one says blue and the other white, then I might believe it, but pics are just too easy to alter nowadays.

Hm. Now that I think about it, it might be time to go cause a shitstorm over at TFW...

Ok, so I posed the question over at TFW of Dirge's wings. So far it's 5-8 yellow. So that's clear as mud. Which is brown by the way.

Depends on the mud now, don't it?

Just for the hell of it, I showed Generations Dirge to my graphic designer wife who is good at colors, and she described these wings as gold. Then as "70's kitchen yellow". Either way, they are apparently the same color as our younger dog, who I also always thought of as yellow.

Sesame Street claimed colors were easy.

Universe Starscream looks pretty keen, but I'm partial to the clear ghost Starscream myself. That thing is lovely.

Yes!! That thing is soooo pretty. I should really track down the remaining classics seekers at some point. I seem to be missing the best colored ones, including Skywarp, Action Master Thundercracker, Ghostscream, G2 Ramjet and really the rest of the TFCC seekers. I'd even like to get Nacelle and G2 Starscream at some point.

At best you could call Dirge's wings baby-shit brown but even that's going to be as much yellow as brown.

As much as that broke the land-speed record for how quickly I got sick of seeing something on the internet (previously held by modern Doctor Who fandom), it DID make obvious a very good point about how different colors code visually for different people. My dad has these little tool-drawers in his garage that he swears up and down are green, but they've always looked grey to me. Similarly, as absolutely brown as Dirge's wings look to people like ShockTrek and myself, others like JT absolutely are going to see them as yellow. That's just the way it is in some cases.
What the dress did is express how exposure of an entire image is mentally compensated for and against. The image is wildly overexposed leading to the off tones of the dress, and then the background's exposure causes the mind to carry that even further into a specific color set. I originally saw it as white and gold, I showed it to my sister and she actively saw it morph from that to blue and black because her brain would see the evidence and compensate, then decompensate. Once I saw an animation showing it with exposure compensated for, my brain no longer saw white and gold for about an hour, then it went back and forth.

Not at all. In fact, for most people, one of your eyes will see things with a more "cool" tone while the other will see things with a "warm" tone. Not everybody has the same color accuracy or acumen either.

Jesus Christ, I think I would freak the fuck out if that ever happened to me. I mean, if your eyes can really be that wrong about something then how do we know anything we see is real? Why even bother seeing at all? Might as well just gouge my eyes out and be done with it! I mean, how do I know I'm wearing pants? I see pants, but if my eyes are lying to me then maybe I'm really not wearing pants? I feel like I have them and I feel like I was putting something over my legs this morning, but I dunno man! All of reality is in question now! And now Dirge's wings are yellow instead of brown, but might maybe still be brown... what? Black is white, up is down dogs and cats living together MASS HYSTERIA!!!

I think Dirge's wings depend on which version you're looking at, too. The cartoon will obviously have different shades than the G1 toy, Generations, the Botcon one, the comic, etc.

What colour is Ramjet? Is he white and red? Or is he white and maroon?!
