I actually thought the Gobots were knock off Transformers (didn't know they were made first) but I always thought the designs and, by extension the toys were far inferior. I just didn't like the aesthetic of taking parts of the vehicle mode and making them into heads. Like I had one that was a VW Beetle and the windshield and roof for the head and they were just terrible terrible toys. I'll take my more human looking TFs any day of the week.

So I guess the Gobots are more like Cybermen then?

The "car-headed" Gobots (Scale Robo, to give them their correct name) were vastly in the minority, though. There were like six of them, and 50-odd Gobots with more humanoid features.

Gobots are cyborgs, to put it blunty. Not that marketing seemed to know. "Mighty robots, mighty vehicles".


But hey, "Robots in disguise"...
